Makes you want to take a second look at Iran, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Zimbabwe, huh? Maybe those countries aren't so bad after all.

Sure, PFIEL, I lived in 2 of those countries and visited the 3rd (the Netherlands). They're all very nice. How about you, planning a vacation in any those countries that share your views? I hear Iran has some fascinating mountain ranges that might be fun to hike.

I don't need to visit Iran, I already live in a country that fits my views of gays, it is called the United States. Sorry they are not going far enough to the left for you, even states like Oregon(who passed assisted suicide) have decided that your agenda doesn't fit in the United States. Next thing you will be cheering is "Pedophile Rights"

I'll take America, I don't think I'd like to see my daughters and wife treated like Donkeys. If I tried to make my wife wear a black sheet and a mask for the rest of her life and told her to sit in the back seat of the car when we go out for an ice cream she would "Behead Me In My Sleep"

If you think those countries aren't that bad you take a very strange stand for a "Far Left Liberal" they are against everything you stand for, and you called me uneducated :singing: :singing:

    PS
You better not go to Iran and start with the "Feminist Freedom Stuff" or tell the people if they don't agree with their president to go and stand in front of his Palace and call him a dummy (nobody will ever see you again)

    4. Driving on the wrong side of the road
    5. De Lorean cars
    6. The Glazer family
    7. Budweiser
    8. Tax evasion on fairly levied tea duties

    1. Football (worth duplicating from Patters' answer)
    2. Adam Vinatieri and making me think that I should have had more faith in the Pats than I did in 2001-2. I seriously never thought I would see the Pats win the Big One.

    4. Erm, I can't think of a fourth one.

    9. The West Wing, The Shield and other great programmes. In dramas, I think the best ones are American at the moment.

    I couldn't resist sticking my oar in for once . . .

So, in no particular order, and promising that I am totally serious and sincere:
    • George Clooney
    • Face lifts
    • Kindly allowing those poor jewish people to have a peak at the statue of liberty before sending them back to be gassed in Europe.
    • Star Trek (yes I am a trekie, I even belonged to Treksoc at uni)
    • Mistiming the first landing of man on the moon to be three weeks AFTER I was born.
    • Robert Frost

Not yet, but we're getting there. What will you say in 30-40 years when gay marriage is legal (like interracial marriage became, over your ancestors' likely objections).

Miss Gcat knows more about these things than I do, but she tells me that refugees fleeing Hitler were sent back by authorities. I should point that the Brits were also very guilty of this one. She's still at work so I'll ask her to post when she comes in.

Not quite from within view of the Statue of Liberty . . .

I can't find a reference to refugees coming withing sight of the statue but perhaps the cartoon mentioned here explains where the idea came from, however, the paragraph quoted below it and the link to the full article better explain what I was talking about. Mr Cat is sadly correct that Britain was no better. Even countries such as ours which pride themselves on values such as freedom and fairness behave terribly, witness popular views on immigration in the UK today.
    http://www.wymaninstitute.org/articles/2005-05-cartoons.php
"In the 1930s, particularly after the repressive Nuremburg Laws of 1935, Germany's Jews by the thousands naturally tried to flee the country. The United States had an annual immigration quota of 25,957 for Germany, but in 1939 there were six times that many visa applications from Germany and Czechoslovakia. A bill to allow 20,000 extra German Jewish children into the country was easily defeated in Congress. A magazine poll claimed that 83 percent of the American public was opposed to changes in the immigration policy."
