I've never experienced anything like this in my life. Here in DC people are dancing in the street, crying, hugging each other. I've never seen such an emotional expression of solidarity and happiness ever before. This is something that I'll remember for the rest of my life, and it is an important moment for America.

it's so much more than a black man winning...

it's the better, far more educated candidate finally winning...

it's the end of the Bush League...

it's the end of pre-emptive ideology...

it's the end of corporate protections and unbridled, unregulated capitalism...

it's the end of irrational fear and pointless divisive sentiment...

it's the end of class divide, and draconic, theocratic law...

it's a new direction for a PROGRESSIVE America.... not a regressive one...

We're not celebrating an Obama victory, we're celebrating an American victory. I guess you don't want to be a part of that....that's your choice.

But either you're with us or you're against us...which is it gonna be?

You guys are dreaming if you think anything in the USA is going to change. We have 55 trillion dollars in debt. The country, and everyone in it,is totally insolvent. Sorry to be a bummer, hey, even I voted for the brother from another mother, but the system is broken and beyond repair. I appreciate the sentiment behind today's landslide victory, but it's just that, sentiment.

Buy tangible assets for the storm that is coming. It is going to be ugly.

PS, the day I see our troops coming home from all of the occupied territories is the day I believe real change is happening. Until then, um, no.

Oh it's just 10 trillion unless you actually intend to pay Social Security as long as we owe it. (then it's 63.)

    Don't exaggerate ;)

No, he's largely correct. We're largely F'd. And the dumbasses will blame Obama for whatever happens, despite 28 years of corporative protections, ignoring of the approaching energy cliff and an economy based on infinite growth...

Still... In a time of desperate DESPERATE need for a complete overhaul for our greed-polluted capitalistic system, Obama offers that change... McCain would have been more of the same lemminghood mentality, running towards the abyss for the sake of "trickle down" economics.

I agree with you totally, again, I voted for Nader. I meant this largely as a huge moment for social justice and civil rights in America.

Still doesn't change the fact that I've never seen such a reaction like this before, and for the first time in my life, I feel proud of America.

Thanks for the support, friends. I'm not trying to be a downer. This is an epic moment in the struggle for racial equality in our country. But I am a person who likes to keep it simple, it is, was, and will always be about the money, never forget that . Read my Einstein quote, Obama was financed by the same corporate interests that back every president we've had in my lifetime. I hope he is the real thing. We'll see.

I know you Wildo...you just want someone to give you are hard time for saying "for the first time in my life, I feel proud of America"

    Dontcha?;)

I feel proud and hopeful. The kind of hope that is based more in humanity than someone who's gonna fix everything. Also, proud & hopeful about America and our system of government and out cherished constitution.

Can you break down what you mean by your comment in bold above PC?

I'm pretty sure I know what you mean. It's just like I always say to my boss about our company & how every year our goals are to increase sales AND be more probitable. That becomes impossible at some point.

Is that basically what you're saying about infinite growth?

I didnt use that phrase by accident, but I'm only 25 and this is the first time in my life I've felt truly proud that America did something extraordinary. For me, patriotism/pride/respect/nationalism doesn't just come as a birth right, it's earned, and tonight I can honestly say that America as a nation earned it from me for the first time. That phrase, when Michelle Obama said it, was true for a great many Americans, and I'm not embarrassed to say that my pride in my country isn't assumed.

There's a lot of American mythology and manufactured self-congratulatory pride that we like to talk about, but until African American strangers hug you in the street, it isn't real on a personal and human level.

Isn't it nice? The right wing lunatics on this board have finally taken a night off. The blessed silence and the sweet smell of victory are very refreshing. Let us bask in the glow, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
