Predict The Score: AFC Championship, BAL @ NE - Ravens Official Message Board - Page 3

So I looked at the Ravens board (didn't register or post), just to see what was being said about Sundays game.

Now everyone of the people posting, with the exception of 1 or 2, picked the Raven to win.

Here everyone picks the Patriots to win because that's what's going to happen and we all know it, based on a fair and objective analysis of the breakdowns and keys to the games.

They seem to be a bunch of homers over there. :D

You know what? I don't know who's going to win the game. That's why I'll be watching.

So let me get this straight.....

everyone on the Ravens forum thinks the Ravens will win

and everyone on the Pats forum thinks the Pats will win

    real shocker

In other breaking news, I also heard that Robert Kraft thinks the Patriots will win too.

Suggs makes any board that much uglier.

I have no problem admitting when I think the Pats are facing a superior opponent. But if you put a gun to my head and forced me to choose this one, I'd still take the Patriots at home. I wonder how many Ravens fans would change their picks if forced to be brutally honest. There's the "honest" pick, and then there's the "hopeful/wishful/homer" pick.

I have to laugh whenever I visit any opposing fan forum because invariably someone (or several people) will take what one confident opposing fan said, and then it becomes 'ALL (fill in name of team) fans are delusional' because they think they're going to (choose one depending on time of year and circumstance: make playoffs; win division; win upcoming game; win super bowl). That in turn leads to ALL (fill in name of team) are (choose any or all: arrogant, idiots, bandwagoners, know nothing about the game, fair weather fans); 'they're not intelligent fans like we are'.

Then a minute later the very same people predict the very same thing except in reverse.

So basically people predicting that a 7½-point favorite will win are delusional homers that know nothing about football, but the majority predicting a 7½-point underdog will win is a sign of unbiased objectivity. Okay then ...

The bottom line is that these are two very good teams and the game could easily go either way. The Raven fans are confident in their team; I have no problem with that. But for them to believe that Pats fans should not feel the same way about the team they root for seems rather ridiculous, if not hypocritical.

Wait a minute. The Ravens fans think the Ravens are going to the Super Bowl and Patriots fans think the Patriots are going to the Super Bowl?

    What, are they nuts!?!?

Everybody knows the New York Jets are going to the Super Bowl. Rex said so!

I have problem with fans picking their own team to win especially in the AFC Championship Game where both teams are supposed to be the two best teams in their conference, but some of these scores are rediculous. Ravens 35-24. Baltimore 31-28. Ravens 30-27. Ravens 30-20. Ravens 31-27. Ravens 34-30. Ravens 41-31. Ravens 35-17. Ravens 31-30. Ravens 34-28. Ravens 31-24.

Seriously, the Pats have given up over 30 points only once this season and that was against a surging Bills team that scored 7 points on defense. Even when the Steelers dominated the Pats, the Pats only gave up 25 points and a healthy Steelers' offense is far better than this Ravens' offense. The Ravens haven't scored 30 points since November.

I think if either team scores in the 30s, the Pats win this game. The only way I see the Ravens win if they keep both teams from scoring more than 24-25 points. If the Ravens are scoring over 30, the Pats are probably scoring 40 because it has turned into a shootout. The Ravens want to keep the ball out of Brady's hand which means they will not score more than 24-25 in a win.

I pick the Pats but in looking at the team's recent history, when they face very good, active defenses they tend to score less points than normal.

This year, Steelers, Cowboys, Giants and 'Fins were all decent defenses and they struggled a bit vs them.

Last year was Ravens, Chargers, Jets (3 times, struggled twice) and Browns (Mangini)

Pats should still score between 21-30 points but I don't expect a big offensive output here.

The Pats defense needs to play well. Period

We do appreciate humor, well most of us anyway. OK, a slim majority. But it has to be above the Jr High level. We have standards that are not that difficult to meet.

You really think if I said something similar on a Ravens board I wouldn't be banned?

I guess since the Ravens boards are so much more lenient that explains why comments from new members or those with a low post count do not immediately appear, but have to first be approved by a moderator before becoming visible ...
