They have to treat me if I don't have insurance but I'm sure I'll still be billed for it :(

Oh please NEM..If someone needed weekly kidney dialasis and they dont have insurance, are hospitals going to do it once and tell the poor bastad that he's on his own? NO! I cant belive that you would be so nieve about this. Sad.

If hospitals accept federal funds they do not have a choice under the Hill Burton Act...they must treat everyone who comes through the door. The quality of care is different dependent on the type of coverage and the ethics of the attending physician..having spent some time in emergency rooms it is obvious who gets the quickest attention, those with "quality" insurance go much quicker than the Hill Burton Patient..this is the ying and yang of many hospitals in the city, they were built there a long time ago and now just exist there, i.e. university hospital in Boston or Rhode Island Hospital in Prov... it is a complex problem that is not going away, frequently homeless folk come in complaining of a malady and they just can't let them go..one of the resolutions that can help this is to have more clinics readily available for folks and that would lessen the strain on emergency rooms.

This whole Health insurance thing is such a scam. Even if you do have coverage and you have a stay at the hospital, you are still going to be charged with exorbitant bills because of the deductibles and most(well my) insurers will only cover so much and than your on your own.
Last year I had an overnight stay at the local hospital, had a stress test for my heart and lab tests. I had to pay over 1,500 dollars in deductibles and co-payments. It was like I had no insurance at all.

The problem is the high cost of health care.

If we were to believe all this "left wing socialist crap" about health care the parking lots of America's Hospitals would be littered with dead body's.

The Illegal Aliens, the Wino's, the Junkies, and "LEGITIMATE POOR PEOPLE ON MEDICARE" get better health care than I do, because I PAY.

If you would like to test this theory, put on some dirty clothes, stagger into your local hospital, tell them you think you are dying, then tell them you have no Identification, tell them you have no permanent home, tell them you have no insurance, tell them you only have $6.35 to your name, then tell them you came to America on an Inner Tube. You will go to the head of the line.

The poor jerk that worked all his life and is paying $2000.00 a month for health insurance will have to wait until the Doctors get through giving the "Inner Tube Man" his checkup.

I started woking construction in the 80's, at that time hmo's were being introduced to save money for the hospital industry.... Eventually health insurance programs were being dropped due to cost...I tore my knee up in 94 without insurance and did not go to the hospital for fear of being unable to pay the bill and ruining my credit.... Did not work for two months while I built strength up in my knee, enough to walk, I had 5 grand saved to pay the bills at home..... Then I started working at home depot, they offered insurance, which I did'nt use, my pay was to put it mildly, ammusing.... Within a year, of lifting weights and riding a bike, my knee had recovered..I quit home depot and returned to my trade...Back then I could have purchased a plan at 250 a month.... Its 600 now, with the cost of gas eating up any chance of paying that bill..Yes I could get a job with insurance, just dont want to sell my house and rent an apartment.....

I kind of wish I didn't have it. I pour $450 a month into the system and they cover almost nothing except for the long hospital stay. Given that I'm 39 and in good health, the odds of that are small. If I were single I seriously might just cancel it and play the odds.

A good friend of mine had his insurance pulled because they felt he used it too much (he has MS and his medications cost $10,000 a month). He's always paid his premium on time and everything, but they decided he was an unprofitable customer.

I don't think illegal aliens have the right to protest Harry. If they do, they shouldn't. If you come into my home uninvited and then have the nerve to complain, I'll just tell you to get the F*** out!:D

....Hey! I just realized that IcyPat just resurrected this old thread...oh well!

    This.

My health insurance is expensive and ******* useless. I lived in a country with socialized healthcare and it's not all bad, but if they deem your surgery "elective", forget about getting it anytime soon (at least in the country in which I lived). Surgery for my knee was considered elective, so I was put on a three-year waiting list. On the other hand, I got a puncture wound and was treated fully over the course of the next few months and didn't pay a dime. So if you want national healthcare, move to another county and then take it or leave it, but it won't happen in this country, so it's time for practical solutions.
