Blatantly ripped off from a post on a KC Chiefs Forum:

Let's put together an all-time Patriots team where we can only have one person per last initial (A, B, C, D, etc.) In other words, all 22 players must have a different last initial.

For practical reasons, we'll go only with the 22 offense and defense starters.

You can cut and paste the following list, and add or substitute names as needed. I'll begin with Hog Hannah, who will lay claim to the "H" spot on the roster. To avoid annoyance regarding whether we're going with a 3-4 or a 4-3, I'll go with generic LB and DL designations (rather than DE/DT, ILB/MLB etc) and have one slot that can be either a 4th linebacker or a 4th lineman, whatever works.

Is it just by surnames? If not, I'd like to be clever and use the infamous Zeke Mowatt at TE.

Yeah, unfortunately, it's too easy if you use either initial. Clever move, but it's the first letter of just the last name that counts. I can think of at least one better use of "M" off teh top of my head, but I'll refrain for now...

I originally decided upon Tom Brady, then realized that would prevent the inclusion of Tedy Bruschi on the list. But since the Patriots have had many great linebackers in their franchise history, I decided to stick with my original choice.

Hah! You've just given me a great vehicle for procrastination for the next hour.

Complete update. Note that at the end of this exercise, only 4 letters can be unused. I'm thinkign there's not too many great players with a U or X to start their last name, so we'll probably need to swap out players as we get close to completing the roster.

I'll add Randy Vataha at WR. Can't think of another good V (remember, no Kickers)

I'd petition for Marc Edwards for Fullback. Much better than Zereoue.

Replace Cunningham with Coates.

Vrabel is better than Vataha, I agree.

Edwards is a better player than Zeroue, I agree, but Zeroue starts with a Z, which makes him more prized, unless you can think of another good Z. Remember, at the end of this, we'll have only 4 unused letter. We may end up trading Hog Hannah for some pathetic guard like Eugene Chung to open up the "H" at some other position. Some tough choices eventually...

Coates is better than Cunningham, I'd agree. But we might end up needing to use Ben Watson at the TE spot in the long run.

How about substituting Amos Zereoue with someone like Sam Gash? I think avoiding the letter Z would be a good idea........can't think of too many players whose last name begins with the letter Z who would be appropriate (I don't think we would want to substitute Tom Brady with Scott Zolak, now would we?).

Zereoue a Fullback?!?!

Gimme Andre Tippett at Linebacker. :)
