Well, arguably he COULD take the suspension now, and be back in time for the playoffs.

Alternately, he could appeal, and maybe hold off the suspension until next year.

Obviously, the best for the team is to delay until next year, if that can be assured. The team understands how to deal with 4 games suspensions at the start of the year.
