Al Wilson looking to come back

If the Pats were looking at Zach Thomas, why not Al Wilson?

Exactly, if his neck really is OK then I am all for bringing him in as he was a game changing LB. If he can regain his past form with us it would be a huge boost for the LB corps. This guy is not Dan Morgan or Zach Thomas, his brain is not turned to mush by being hit so many times, and hes not one big hit from having permanent brain damage. There is very little downside here.

Of course this is all reliant on his neck really being ok...

How do you know he didn't get an invite? Last year he wasn't cleared to play because of his neck injury. He's been cleared to play by a neck specialist that is a helluva lot more demanding that a team physical is.

No media outlet, adam schefter who has been on top it has not even mentioned.unless some team is running it as a covert ops i do not see this has happened.

Schefter hasn't announced all the teams that players have visited. In fact, Schefter was behind on some signings as well. If you think that Schefter knows everything that is going on in the league, then you are sorely mistaken.

A visit by Al Wilson, a fairly big name, to any team would be quite newsworthy, and it's doubtful someone like Schefter would overlook something like that....

The FA circuit is pretty slow and al wilson is a big name so i do think he will be on the news if he has a visit.

The kid could be the next Andy Katzenmoyer! Don't let him get away!

:D

But seriously, folks... I wouldn't mind having a look at him. What's to lose? I think over the years a huge part of the Pats success has been a formula of taking a very small chance on a guy, and letting them prove their worth.

The team's "aura" plays into this as well: Guys know if they or their reputations are "banged up," they can go to NE, and NE will make it their business to focus them on football. I.e., if they have a shot at a comeback, NE is a great place to make it happen.

Some young guys have their horror stories about how cheap NE is, so that's a "downside" to our system. It's definitely an upside that NE is a possible destination for very talented players who are "declared" to be busts or past their prime.

Ahem. That said: it is not therefore a certainty that if a beat-up older guy gets picked up by the Pats, he is then automatically good :)

Id love for the Pats to get a look at Al Wilson, as well. But the man is going to be looking for one last fairly big contract. I think he's visited with Detroit this week IIRC. But with the neck injury still looming a bit, it wouldnt be a smart use of money to tie up alot in him. If we could sign the man to a veteran minimum deal, then so be it. Thats just not happening. Some team like the Lions or Bengals or whomever is going to probably pay him $3 or 4mil a year. He's been out of football for a year after being drafted almost 10 years ago, and plays an incredibly violent position. Let someone else take the risk.
