6'-240 isn't small. That's Bruschi sized.

The guy was an All-Pro in 2005 and 2006. I'd be very surprised if he isn't brought in for a look-see.

I really wish we could get off the whole "lets sign 56 year old+ linebacker threads." We need to stop being blind to the fact that in all of our superbowls, we allowed the other teams to score in their final drives...and a defensive breakdown towards the end of these games can be somewhat directed at linebacking. I love a good vet, but the time is now to get young blood...not all these used washed up Al Wilson guys...It's a serious flaw we have and we can say "In BB and Pioli we trust"...but when is the last time we found a keeper out of these backup LB's? Vrabel?...just my two cents

This has been in the news for some time..,not sure he would fit the bill inside..esp with the injuries..Can he play in a 3-4 inside?? Be a run stuffer?? I think other better options would be available..but he should be looked at of course...

Wilson would be our youngest linebacker at age 30 (he's a month younger than Adalius). Yes, he had neck problems but has since been cleared to play. Though he suffered the neck injury at the end of the 2006 season, he was still voted an All-Pro that year, and the previous year. He is a 5-time Pro Bowler. You'd be picking up a guy who was recently one of the best LBs in the league on the cheap, and if his injuries are a problem then he's toast and you cut him. Low-risk, high-reward. He's not small, he weighs 240 lbs, so he's about equivalent to Bruschi size. Again, prior to his injury, if someone said there was a chance of getting Al Wilson, people here would've done backflips.

Obviously, it's relative, but the 3-4 usually requires ILBs to be huge to take on Guards. Tedy is the exception, not the rule.

Bruschi's been playing in the 3-4 for years. I don't know if you can call him an exception anymore. For what it's worth, Larry Foote and James Farrior of the Steelers both hover around 240 too. Donnie Edwards was around 230 in San Diego. Again, Wilson was one of the most talented linebackers in the league a mere two seasons ago.

That's exactly the comparison I'd make. Colon was one of the best pitchers in baseball up until last year, and now he gets a chance to show what he's made of for one of the best teams in the league.

Al Wilson is a great player and an emotional leader. As a Charger fan I was ecstatic when the Broncos released him and hoped the Chargers would sign him (last year). He would be a tremendous addition to any team IMO (but if NO one signs him, obviously they know something we don't). I'd hate it if the Patriots signed him because I believe it would make them stronger and more able to beat my Chargers.

If the Pats were interested in bringing in Zach Thomas and his size then Al Wilson is a giant compared to Zach Thomas. Size aside, can the man play the position?

How do you know he didn't get an invite? Last year he wasn't cleared to play because of his neck injury. He's been cleared to play by a neck specialist that is a helluva lot more demanding that a team physical is.
