Couple points:

He can be picked up, as the Patriots picked up Jake Ballard.
He can be retained on IR, if no one picks him up. Miguel did some interesting analysis on rookies on training camp IR - to date, none have made any real contribution. This year there are several possibilities - Tyler Gaffney, James Morris, Cameron Gordon.
He can also be released with an injury settlement.

Yeah, the Panthers could definitely see this as possible payback for Gaffney. Surprised BB would leave it up to that, but guessing he doesn't think losing Derby would be a huge deal.

I don't think that BB would put someone on waived/injured if he was not prepared to loose them.

Bequete survives another day. Dean was cut, Derby was waived and Bequette still remains on the roster. An All SEC DE and an Academic All American, Bequette must be quite a good guy in the locker room and a hard worker as he converts position to TE.
