never understood how all the cyphering in DVOA, QB rating or Aikman ratings actually work.. but find that according to Aikman that we have the highest rated O since his system was begun in 1994, it is interesting that the top 8 teams have all made the playoffs..

The Patriots mark of 99.0 eclipses the previous record on Offense of 94.4 by the 2004 Indianapolis Colts. Their 177.8 Combined AER surpasses the 173.7 of the 1996 Green Bay Packers (AER records date to 1995).

The NFL standard for offensive/defensive rankings is based on how many yards per game a team gets. This often skews who actually is the best offensive/defensive team is. Never understood the rationale behind that but I believe Aikman pointed that out as a hugely ineffective way to rate offense and defense and thus came up with his own system. I have liked his efficiency ratings better than anyone elses the last few years.
