with the loss of willie, and the soon to be retirements of bru and rodney we need to be bringing in some guys that could become great leaders

Strengths:
A good athlete with great quickness off the snap...Is solidly built...Very strong and a big hitter...Versatile with experience at defensive end and linebacker...Excellent in pursuit and has a motor that never stops...Natural pass rusher with a knack for getting after the quarterback...Technically sound, will use his hands well and can shed blocks...Holds his own versus the run...Has a lot of experience and was very productive...Tough, nasty and a hard worker...Team leader with good intangibles.

Weaknesses:
A 'tweenerwho does not have the ideal height that you look for...His timed speed is only average...May have to make a position change at the next level...Struggles with and can be overpowered by massive offensive linemen...His lack of size and pure speed will only be magnified in the NFL...Will not fit in well in every scheme.

Notes:
Nickname is "Wood"...A hybrid player whose best fit in the pros might very well be as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense...Does not have everything you look for in terms of measurables but you can't ignore the production...His exact role is yet to be determined but teams will find ways to get a playmaker like him on the field.

The dudes a beast.

Aggressive and physical edge rusher who plays with a high motor and a very competitive nature ...Will go until the whistle and demonstrates the upper-body power to stack, shed and press off coverage … Hard worker in practices and the training room and takes well to hard coaching (will do whatever the staff asks, evident by playing a different position in each of his years at Michigan) … Excellent edge rusher who constantly beats the blocker with his initial quickness … Has the initial step off the line and times his jumps well shooting the inside gaps ... Does a good job of making adjustments on the move and has the lateral range to get to the perimeter and force the outside running game back inside ... Shows ease of movement flowing to the ball and a sudden burst to fill the rush lanes … Very aggressive taking on blockers and even if he loses the battle, he will not throttle down, quit or get frustrated … Uses his hands well to defeat blocks and keep the opponent from attacking his feet … Pursues the play with vigor and has fluid lateral agility in pursuit, showing good urgency throughout the chase

In 49 games at Michigan, Woodley started 33 times. He recorded 177 tackles (129 solos) and ranks second in school history with 25 sacks for minus-228 yards and 50.5 stops for losses totaling 286 yards. He caused 10 fumbles, recovered four others, including one that he returned 54 yards for a touchdown and had five pass deflections.

He's run a 4.62 fourty time prior to his hammy straing, and after the hammy straing he's ran the fourty in 4.74 seconds. He's also got hops with a 38½-inch vert., 9'9" broad jump, and strength with 29 reps at 225, 355lbs bench press. Don't forget Woodley also has long arms (32 7/8 inches long).

His leadership cannot be questioned. After the team sucked it up in '05 Woodley called a team defensive meeting telling everyone they needed to commit. The Wolverines defense turned it around, and was sick in '06.
