    #12 Jersey

The Bears are reported to be making a big play for Peppers and Ogunleye is all but gone and is an UFA,even if the Bears don't win the Pepper sweepstakes.

Is Ogunleye an option as a 33 year old vet who would probably would come in as a value priced player? or is he not a good fit?

I know he is a primary 4-3 DE but we will probably be mixing it up front this year in 3-4 and 4-3 sets - maybe he can do what Jason Taylor did and adjust to fit in as a situational OLB?.

With an average of 7 sacks a season prior to last season when he suffered a severe head injury,it appears he still has something left and not at a big cost, the problem may be his smaller size may not work here, but I don't know.

    Thoughts?

If BB is going to go with a 4-3 again he should definitly pursue him. We need more vets that can contribute on this team. Plus he has experience in the division. i don't think he could provide much at OLB.

Does "absolutely not" sum up my response enough?

The Bears are rumored to be after every big name free agent including Peppers and Dansby and according to the Chicago Sun-Times, they don't have the money to sign any of them. The McCaskerly family has given Jerry Angelo permission to spend at max $25 million in upfront guaranteed money on free agents this offseason. That is for all their free agent acquisitions. That won't even be enough for either Peppers or Dansby.

    From the Sun-Times:

Bears' top priority on defensive could be Peppers :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Sean Jensen

As for Ogunleye, the guy appears to be done. Maybe three years ago, I would go crazy after him, but right now I would rather have Jason Taylor than him.

Didn't think he was THAT done.....But then again I don't see the Bears in action too much.

However I will bet ANYTHING that there will be a WTF signing by BB as there is every year,it may not be Ogunleye but it will shock us

Signing Ogunleye to a veteran minimum deal wouldn't be a WTF signing though. It would be a "he'll be lucky to make the final 53 man roster signing", but not a shocker in any way unless they give him an above market deal.

I agree. Bringing in vets to solidify a good core was an excellent strategy early to mid-decade... But I think this team needs to get new faces rather than quick fix / add helpers. We are more than a 33 year old defensive player away from the last game of the season.
