LB Adam Seward of the Panthers, talked about his visiting the Pats as a RFA:

    LINK

I'm surprised the guy spoke so openly about playing here, although it may be because he realizes he may get cut there.

He says a lot more, and it seems like he wishes he were here.

LMFAO - I saw a highlight of him grabbing an int. in their preseason game and thought about the uberthread, this is fuel for the fire ;)

Even better idea...since we know ;) Cassell is going to be out, let's trade him for Seward. ;)

I'm not sure where Seward fits here. The Panthers are not exactly overflowing with linebacker talent. The Patriots, meanwhile, have a logjam at LB. Would Seward crack a rotation of Thomas/Bruschi/Mayo/Vrable/Crable/Hobson/Woods? Does he have more special teams value than Woods or Alexander? More long term upside than Redd or Guyton? Would he help the team more in 2008 than Seau? If you can't answer "yes" to at least 2 of those questions, then there's no point considering him.

Well I would assume he would take Hobson's spot in the rotation. Playing as the bigger Mike spot, rotating in with Bruschi . [Where Thomas played early last year.] That would leave Guyton as the possible 4th ILB spot playing special teams with Seward and knocking Alexander out.

As for being more help in 2008 then Seau, I don't know. I thought Hobson would be a good fit and pick up the system pretty quick. I was wrong there. If Seward was brought in now and had even less time to pick up the system, maybe he would react great and be a solid rotation guy by week 3, maybe he would flounder like a fish and would need to be cut to bring Seau in to steady the ship.

I might be wrong but I think the point was not that he could be available here at some point but more to point how much he thinks of this orginization and how much he wished we had made an offer.

You don't need to fit him in to our roster to appreciate the fact that he thinks highly of this place.

Gotta love what winning can do.

Can you imagine some one coming here 15 years ago not ever actually get an offer and than express how much they wished they got an offer from us. We had hard enough time getting people to come here never mind people who never could have but wished they could have.

Seward is getting a little chatty for my taste. I can understand being frustrated at being behind Beason (and possibly Connor) on the depth chart, but he doesn't miss many opportunities to talk up his "uncommon" size and "4.5 speed" (his words, not mine). A bit much for a guy looking for his first sack and pass defensed.

I saw the interception in highlights and wondered what the hell happend there...

He signed a 1 year tender, correct? That means he is available next off season?

I guess he's hoping he gets cut by the Panthers and somehow we make room for him.

He talks too much...doesn't seem smart enough to be a Patriot linebacker...

I ran into a woman who does the drycleaning for Seward's fourth cousin's niece the other day, and according to her and her broken English, Seward signing with the Pats is a "ROCK!!!"

They passed on him for a Jets reject in Hobson,I would guess that tells me he is not as good as advertised in here.

Not necessarily true. If Hobson and Seward provided equal utility to the team, then Hobson provides more value, b/c you don't have to give up a draft pick for him in the process (i.e., it's Hobson + Slater v. Seward + 7th rounder).

I agree with your point about how he fits here, but the Panthers do have a lot of talent at LB.
