While an injury caused him to miss a portion of last season there are still many articles on the web that say he is dissapointing as a Patriot thus far considering the biggest FA acquisition of 2007

I think its a mixed bag - When healthy he has been good at times and so so other times

Is he what you thought he would be like or not?

    A simple poll .....

I think he's been excellent and clearly the best LBer on the team... when healthy.

Undoubtedly we need more of this, but I think he's doing ok.

Re: Adalius Thomas ...His first two years as a Patriot

That's a very good question and I honestly don't know how to answer it, not because AT hasn't played very well when healthy, but because of how high the expectations were. If I have to decide, I guess I'd say that a healthy Thomas has been what I hoped he would be.

Re: Adalius Thomas ...His first two years as a Patriot

I think for what they are paying him, the expectation has to have been higher. When I say expectation, his annual sack total being in the 8-10 range, maybe forcing a couple of fumbles and recording a interception or two every year.

IMO hes certainly been above average, but not the gamebreaking OLB that I was expecting.

that is because a lot of the time he has been ILB.

    funny how that works.

Last year, he was fantastic - if not for the injury. I still remember him pushing back a Jet and getting to Favre with one hand.

Re: Adalius Thomas ...His first two years as a Patriot

Prior to the Colvin injury in 07, he was 50/50 ILB/OLB before the Colvin injury and went to 25/75 afterwards w/ Seau getting a ton more snaps at ILB. Last year he was 80% OLB. If you are saying that by playing ILB would cut into his sack totals, then why aren't his tackle totals higher? To counter my own arguement, I think he was double-teamed more often than not which allowed Vrabel to notch 12 sacks in 07.

Typically, players dont put up big sack totals in this D, but the perception is that he should be providing more impact/game changing plays (forcing fumbles, etc). Don't know if it's fair or not.

With his 3rd year in the D, I expect big things from AD this year.

Adalius is a great player, he's a play maker. We saw the 2nd game of 2007 season when he picked off Rivers on that chargers game and ran it back for a TD...like any person playing injuries you're not full speed, so his production is not that great this past season. This year he gets back on track. Especially since he knows Burgess is on the other side helping out, not to mention Mayo/Bru & co in the middle. Its a great year for our LB's.

Re: Adalius Thomas ...His first two years as a Patriot

The mental masturbation of people demanding double digit sacks and other feats of daring-do for a player coming from edge rusher in a pressure defense to interior player in a gap control defense is reason enough to discard expectations and judge him on the merits of his work in this scheme. Of course the fact that someone has to poll the fan base for feedback implies the evaluation isn't based on the merits, rather it remains focused on the fantasy.

Re: Adalius Thomas ...His first two years as a Patriot

In 7 yrs with Baltimore he had one season with 10+ sacks.

Last year when moved back to OLB, he notched 5.5 in a half season.

Can we end this nonsense, plz?

He is fine, suspect if healthy will have a statistically great season, as the complimentary cast, on paper ,seems to have gotten much better...

Sometimes it is difficult to assess the play of these guys as we do not know their assigment, there have been times due to the lack of confidence in the secondary he has had to do things that are different than just get sacks or qb pressures...

The better D will probably give him the chance to get another sack or three, but playing opposite Burgess, he's likely to be dropping into coverage more often than not. Hopefully, he can make a few more plays over the course of a healthy season, but shiny statistics aren't the measure of success on this defense.

He's all that I expected and desired when healthy.....

All three choices started with the dreaded... when healthy. I'd love to see him on the field more, but hey.... Injuries are part of the game. We know that all to well.

Re: Adalius Thomas ...His first two years as a Patriot

And leading up to those years was 8 and 9 respectfully but that is besides the point.

You are missing my point. I agree, AD has been a fine player here. I'm glad we have him. But as I said in a previous post, to this point in his time here, you have to wonder what the front office's take on AD production vs contract. Are they disappointed? Are they ok with it? i don't know. Look at his contract.

    • Signing bonus: $12 million in 2007

    • Option bonus: $8 million payable in 2008, applied for cap reasons in equal $2 million increments in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.

    • Salaries: $900,000 in '07, $900,000 in '08, $1.9 million in '09, $4.9 million in '10 and $5.9 million in '11.

    • Workout bonuses: $107,000 annually if he participates in the Patriots' offseason workout program in Foxboro.

    • Cap numbers: In succession, beginning this year, $3.4 million, $5.4 million, $6.4 million, $9.4 million, $10.4 million.

I agree with Box, hes not going to get 12-13 sacks in this D. BB likes his positional flexibiliy but also likes his potential to change games on a dime. Sure he was on a nice sack pace last year before he broke his arm, but he in fact fell short in the FF, INT-gamebreaking play catagory which is what amongst other things this D lacked.

    My .02$

Re: Adalius Thomas ...His first two years as a Patriot

I don't think I'm missing anything, I just don't think you know wtf you're talking about.

    :rofl::rofl:
    8 and 9 respectfully?
    leading up to which years?
you mean that single year I referenced?

if it's so beside the point why mention it?
 I love when people do that stuff.

hold on --- I've got something besides the point to drop in here:
in 2007, he put up 7 sacks playing ILB a good chunk of the year in a new system on a new team.

I need to make my own poll:
are these adalius thomas threads serious, or simply trolling?

Re: Adalius Thomas ...His first two years as a Patriot

I'll say it one more time.

AD is a fine player and has done well here in NE. I'm glad he is here.

Up to this point, IMO he has not offered the kind of production that would be expected from a contract like his. Injuries get factored in too regardless.

Trying to have a debate on the matter that goes beyond sack totals. Clearly you can't.

Re: Adalius Thomas ...His first two years as a Patriot

If that were actually true you wouldn't have any criticism of Adalius.

These 'fluffy sack totals' that I reference as a benchmark were set out in your first post on the subject.

    :rofl::rofl:

You need to ease up a bit on the fantasy football stat nerding and watch a little more football.
