Rats Scurrying Like Rats To Force Themselves Upon You

A string of electoral defeats and the great unpopularity of ObamaCare can't stop Democrats from their self-appointed rendezvous with liberal destiny—ramming a bill through Congress on a narrow partisan vote. What we are about to witness is an extraordinary abuse of traditional Senate rules to pass a bill merely because they think it's good for the rest of us, and because they fear their chance to build a European welfare state may never come again.

Its amazing how much Obama keeps harping on healthcare while the economy continues to suffer.

Setting a precedent for a simple majority based on total partisanship is a terrible step. Imagine a scenario in which the Republicans win back the House, Senate and Presidency by 2012 - unlikely but not impossible. With the simple majority needed in the House, the newfound simple majority needed in the Senate and the stroke of the President's pen, obamacare can be undone. Get ready for see saw politics, it's going to be a fun ride

Check out an article called "One year out: President Obama's fall" by Charles Krauthammer. Great read. I'd post the link but I don't have enough posts yet.

One year out: President Obama's fall
    By Charles Krauthammer
    Friday, January 15, 2010

What went wrong? A year ago, he was king of the world. Now President Obama's approval rating, according to CBS, has dropped to 46 percent -- and his disapproval rating is the highest ever recorded by Gallup at the beginning of an (elected) president's second year.

Um, the "precedent" was set a long time ago......

During the administration of President George W. Bush, Congress used reconciliation to enact three major tax cuts, each of which was predicted by the Congressional Budget Office to substantially worsen the fiscal position of the United States.

Since 1980, 17 of 23 reconciliation bills have been signed into law by Republican presidents (a Republican has been president for 20 of the last 29 years). Since 1980, reconciliation has been used nine times when Republicans controlled both the House and the Senate, six times when Democrats controlled both the House and the Senate, one time when the Democrats controlled the Senate and the Republicans the House, and seven times when the Republicans controlled the Senate and the Democrats controlled the House.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reconciliation_(United_States_Congress)

Whether reducing or increasing deficits, many of the reconciliation bills made major changes in policy. Health insurance portability (COBRA), nursing home standards, expanded Medicaid eligibility, increases in the earned income tax credit, welfare reform, the state Children's Health Insurance Program, major tax cuts and student aid reform were all enacted under reconciliation procedures.

I don't ever remember so many votes right down party lines like this ever before. When your legislation needs a 60 - 40 majority to pass, you know its partisan politics at its worse.

I mean since when do you need 60 votes to pass anything. Obama's talk of non-partisan politics and such was yet another broken promise. And now he's wasted over a year trying to pass a bill that the vast majority of the population doesn't want passed, which will increase taxes with no benefit for years, all while the economy is already struggling. The best thing to do at this time is LOWER taxes. Not raise them. People want to hear their president talking about fixing the economy, not trying to get universal healthcare through. Its almost like Obama doesn't realize we're in the middle of one of the worst recessions in American history. Its absolutely unbelievable.

This was addressed in the original link.

Regardless of how you feel about tax cuts and free healthcare this is clearly an order of magnitude (or more) above and beyond what has been done before.

When I read the title thought you were referring to Shelby or Bunning, Bunning for holding up the recent bill and Shelby holding up all presidential appointments until they award the contract for the tankers to his constituency, Northrup... circumventing an established bid procedure, and politicizing any semblace of competition for the best/most efficient design..

The reality is that Congress is out of touch and out of control, and the polarization is obvious... any incumbent running for office this year better be worrying...

Reconciliation is not new, but when you start every day with Googling "Obama bad" it is amazing what you come up with..

Also think that all editorials should be signed, so we know who to attribute this work to...
