    Football, Aaron Hernandez - Courant.com

It Is What It Is Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has hip surgery

This picture is probably one of those 'caption this' photos, but the fact Hernandez is not only there but is smiling and laughing makes me believe/hope it's not as serious as it sounds it is.

Guess that it was more than a bruise, here is hoping for a full recovery.

A possible explanation for his slip in production toward the end of the season. As of Feb 21, I'd say the prognosis for a full return in 2011 looks good.

That might explain one reason we couldn't expose Ryan's overplay with individual athletic plays.

The ability to single cover Branch and Tate and a hobbled Hernandez left them only to clog the lanes for Gronk and Welker.

Of course everybody was wide open and Brady choked. I know, I read it on Patsfans.

What the hell? He hurt his hip that bad on his touchdown celebration? Or did he hurt it worse or something later?

That's what concerns me. If he doesn't come back AT LEAST 100 percent next season it would be the No. 1 stupidest injury in the history of the NFL -- worse than Gramatica who blew out his knee celebrating, or Gus Frerotte head-butting a wall. Idiot.

I wish that we had more details. If he doesn't come back at 100% it's going to have a major impact on on our offense.

How does one come back at more than 100%?

Don't know the answer to this, but it seems like the Pats have more off season surgeries than any other team in the NFL. Anyone know if that's true????

Your posts have somewhat of a suspicious tone. Are you a Jets fan?

Yes, it is completely true. You can find this stat on the NFL web site. Don't give up, just keep looking, you'll find it.

Well that explains a lot of things. Though it's amazing how the Pats kept that under wraps for so long. I swear, the organization is more secretive than the CIA.

Since Hernandez actually plays a position that involves contact (unlike Gramatica), I'm thinking that the celebration might have contributed, but was not the sole cause.

And you forgot the Choppin' Wood incident, which happened to none other than Chris Hanson.

Thing is, he sort of dropped off the map after that foot-dragging touchdown celebration. I'll bet that's where he injured it. Hip injuries to football players can be career-ending, and the fact he had surgery on it is disturbing to say the least. We need to watch this one closely.

He didnt hurt himself during the celebration. Watch the play again and see how Sam Shields tackled him. The tackle caused the injury not the celebration.
