I got free season tix, and the right to re-buy. Here's how I did it.

If you own your own business, or are decently high up in a company, you should be able to do it. Bank of America has their "patriots visa" credit card, with pats rewards. Once you run 400k through it, you get season tix, as long as you do it in a 3 year timespan. There are other tempting prizes, but hold out for the seasons.
I ran every bill I paid for my business through my card. Just paid with the card, and paid that amount in a check to myself. I would instantly send the check out to pay off the card. Little more work for the accountant, but not too much. After a few months of just dumping money through it, they raised my limit, and kept doing so until the limit on my card reached twenty thousand. At that point, it was easy to rack up 400 thousand.
My tix are nosebleed, but they are on the forty and on the pats sideline. Not bad for nuthin, and no waiting list.

Just figured I'd share in case anyone was unaware of this.

Unfortunately, for the large majority of us that are not our own bosses/executives, that doesn't work. :(

Also, I'm pretty darn sure there are only a limited number of such tickets available (maybe 50 or so per year)--after all, how many people are going to charge $400K to their credit card in a three-year period?

Well, bully for you. You found a way to sleaze into season tickets by using the card in a way that was not intended. I'm sure the folks at the top of the waiting list who've been waiting patiently the last few years will appreciate that.

Ok gotta say this. Who gives a crap about them? Btw I am one of them, but good for him its absolutely intended to use the card that way. Using a credit card to jimmy open a lock is using it in a way not intended. He spent his hard earned cash on his business and was rewarded for it good for him. When my business gets really going I hope to have this same opportunity to me but if not I aint gonna **** on someone who can cause thats just chilidish

I don't see anything wrong with it, he didn't use it as NOT INTENDED. The card gives you rewards and one of them is season tickets. The credit card company gets a % every time the card is used and they made 400,000 the amount that was worth season tix, I'm sure there deal with the Patriots gave them an alottment of season tickets for this purpose so they are not available to the waiting list anyways. They don;t say you can't use the card for business purchases.

Do you get 2 season tickets or 1?

I use AMEX in a similar fashion though the business is not big enough to get to 400K in 3 years but still a good tip and not something I think is crooked in anyway.

OK, I have to ask !! Why is this a bad idea ????

Most companies or small buisnesses spends money, sometimes lots of money. If he's spending it anyway, how is this a bad idea ?

I live in Pittsburgh and own 7 rentals, I do repairs and hire contractors yearly. This is what I do, I pay every bill ( contractors, utilities ) with my Airline credit card that gives me points towards flying back home (Boston). Needless to say I fly for free ! Here's another twist, there's a gas station chain that's owned by the largest Supermarket chain in Pittsburgh, using my Supermarket Discount card, along with my airline credit card, I get points towards gas, I get 20-40 cents off per gallon everytime I fill up, nevermind the points towards from the credit card to fly anywhere. Here's the catch, this supermarket sells gift cards, almost every kind you can think of, including Home Depot !! By the way, I never by food from their stores, too expensive, I only buy gift cards for HD and Amazon.

Now, understanding I'm spending what I would have too in the first place, how is this or his idea a bad idea ??

I use my CC's in a similar fashion as the OP does. Like him I get perks galore because I spend so much money each year. I don't live in NE otherwise I'd certainly do as the OP does if I wanted tix.

Great idea for those who are in position to take advantage of the process.

He didnt spend 400,000 on a credit card to get them.
He had over 400,000 of business expenses. Instead of writing checks to pay his bills, he paid them with the card then wrote a check to pay off the card.
    Can't anyone around here READ?

I think it is a brilliant idea. Sadly I am not a person who has this opportunity, but if I did I would be all over this. Congrats to the OP.

If you think about it if you have your own business its not hard to rack up 400k between personal and business charges in a 3 year span. Thats only 133,333 each year and if you are in a consumer based business you charge the people who come to you for materials it can easily be done in 3 years

When you also consider that an average business (it does vary widely by the type of business though) shows profit at 30% of expense, the 133,333 of expense each year would mean you are making about 40,000 in profit, so if you aren't able to get tickets this way as a business owner, you really cant afford them anyway.

I live in Weston and own 5 houses that I rent in Newton and thats not my full time job..Its not the fact that it is a bad idea I also charge a substantial amount on my credit card and receive much greater things so I’m not sure why you would want pats tickets out of all the luxurious things to choose from.. maybe you don’t receive the same offers that I do

So your point is that its a great idea, but getting Patriots season tickets now rather than being on a waiting list for 20 years is a waste of a freebie??

I understand his position better now, personally, I perfer the perks I get over the shot at season tickets. But the technique itself to obtain the tickets is sound, just that Jay disagrees with the choice of perk(s)

Isn't this message board a place for fans to help other fans? Yes, the number of people that this tip could help is narrow, but if there are just a couple of want-to-be ST holders who are in position to use credit cards instead of checks for business expenses this is a good tip.

As for it not being intended, it's totally intended. American Express made about $20,000 off of this deal in the commissions it took on the charges, and I'm sure it splits that with the Patriots. If you're unhappy that the patriots offer season tickets to Amex to make more money, rather than putting them on the waiting list, take it up with the Pats.

What I wonder is whether the OP needs to spend $400k every year to keep the tix, or whether once he's on the list he stays on the list. If the former, it's kind of a drag.
