Gotta hand it to Michael Steele. He sort of epitomizes my understanding of what Republicans mean by public service.

Ex-RNC chiefs rip Steele speaking fees - Washington Times

Michael S. Steele, Republican National Committee chairman, is using his title to market himself for paid appearances nationwide, personally profiting from speeches with fees of up to $20,000 at colleges, trade associations and other groups - an unusual practice criticized by a string of past party chairmen.

Mr. Steele, elected in January to the $223,500-a-year RNC post, is working with at least four outside agencies in Washington, New York, Boston and Nashville that book the speaking engagements. He charges between $8,000 and $20,000 for an address, plus first-class travel and lodging expenses.

On a serious note, who cares? Anyone who'd pay a politician to speak, is a moron. Screw those losers. The fees all these clowns get is astonishing. I can't believe someone would pay a person tens of thousands of dollars to read off a piece of paper. That is simply ridiculous.

p.s. I agree woth you guys. Anyone dumb enough to pay him that much jack to speak is insane.

I can proudly state that I have never paid to hear someone speak. Not counting college tuition for which I got to listen to my professors attempt to fill me with information about Marxism. Most of the University of Massachusetts Economics staff was Marxists back in the early 80's. I honestly can't believe we allowed our tax dollars to pay these men to cut down our own system. If only Massachusetts taxpayers knew about these losers.

I think he's doing his patriotic duty. Look at it from his position. He's only making $223,500 a year. If he does the speaking circuit, it's puts him in a higher tax bracket. Helping pay more Health Insurance reform tax. Maybe Biden is his advisor...:D

IDK, I think we have bigger fish to fry.

Interesting article, perhaps it is a harbinger of the future or perhaps it shows the devisiveness of the Republican Party... stay tuned.

What I found interesting was this comment.. former RNC chairman now the head of the Gaming Lobby... that is a lot weird, and borders on sleaze for the party of family values...from the American Gaming Association webstie "Building a better understanding of casino entertainment through education and advocacy"...

Of course he does Patters, not that you'd be generalizing or anything like that:rolleyes:

Steele is all about Steele. He is promoting himself and could care less about the Republican Party as far as i'm concerned. Obviously he was a bad choice for the chairmanship. I'm not sure how you feel you can label most republicans with that though.

    RACISM IS ALIVE AND WELL

I could never understand why anybody in their right mind would actually PAY MONEY to listen to a filthy rotten politician talk.

I am a Neo Con and I have always wanted to say some "bad sh!t" about Steele but of course I can't with all the "Prissy Politically Correct Do-Gooder Police" on here.

This is the first thing Steel's done that makes sense. At the very least I'd think long and hard about getting slapped around all day by fatboy Rush if it meant a 220k/yr salary and 20k speeches. I guess this guy isn't quite as stupid as I thought.

The big difference being, those two are retired from politics (not holding public office) while Steele is the current RNC chairman.
But hey, if you want to chat about ex's giving speeches, you can get W as a motivational speaker.
