That's actually what I was pondering earlier. Are these just normal guys that have real lives? Or are these sick internet kiddies that sit in their rooms in mommy's house just posting all day and night as sad alter egos all over the net? I pity them honestly if that's the case.

Cripes, I would think think of all these kids would be more interested in the porn sites!

They do have a point. I wondered about all the time I spend on this board.

However, those people don't understand what it's like to be a super fan vs a casual fan. I doubt if they could understand. People in my own household question my sanity when it comes to the Partiots but they accept it when they see how I live or die on every play of every game.

EXCATLY!

Well put. I come here because no one thinks I'm wierd or crazy because I have not missed a game in 12 years, and I watch every single pick of the NFL draft, and I read every article I can find about the Pats. I come here because there are others here who literally scream at the television set, and prefer to watch games alone than with casual fans who ask stupid questions or talk during the game.

Bingo! The cat loves Patriot football because I over feed him to make him quit meowing at me!

In one word....jealousy. They know that what the Pats have done and are doing is unprecedented and want to shake our faith in the team. It's amazing that they choose to spend their free time thinking that this is important, but these are not normal human beings.

Believe me, it's not a problem confined to PatsFans.com, trolls are all over the Web.

Fans congregate and talk about their team. That is very normal, kind of a socializaiton of people with like interests getting together. There are a zillion assoications and groups in the world doing just that.

So why do some people eschew gathering with people of common interests and instead go to a place where he doesn't belong and certainly isn't wanted (except by a very few who like chaos and disorder)?

I understand when the week before a game other fans of next weeks opponent come here to talk about the game and players. To me, that is very different from the fans of other teams who hang around picking and poking even when a common game isn't coming up. They are not PatsFans. Even when they are open about it, their purpose is only to disrupt and interfere. They have a place to talk aobut hteir team, but they seem to feel their team will be better if they can say the other team isn't good? I don't know. I don't understand how they think and for that I am grateful.

I too get annoyed at trolls, but when I think about it I feel sorry for a person with so few manners and is so rude he will go to someone else's meeting house and insult his hosts and mock what his hosts respect. A person who keeps going back time and again to a place where he isn't wanted has a severe problem with self-respect and pride. He can do it because the internet is faceless, but it is just as rude. There simply is no accountability. I suppose it is cowardly. It certainly does nothing for their dignity to be despised.

Steerlerfans/jetsfans/coltsfans/raidersfans: Grow a pair. Show some diginity.

On the other hand, this behavior is typical of pre-schoolers and maybe first or second graders, who don't care if they are despised as long as that can act like Jackasses, so perhaps they just need to mature emotionally if they are able.

Honestly I think the internet has given a new vehicle for so many types of disorders that it is literally spawning it's own disorders as those afflicted use it as a means to feed their own. These alter-ego-maniacs could be considered schizophrenic depending on how liberal you are regarding disorders of the mind. Traditionally one has had to live as these alternate personalities through their mind only. The internet has given these people the anonymity to accomplish alternate mindsets and even in some cases (not necessarily limited to football trolls) even entire alternate lives without the fear of judgement or discovery. "Who cares if they me out? I'll move on to another chat room where no one knows who I am or simply change my screen name or IP address and start over." It's crazy.

Well, we did have that cheerleader thread...

Trolls exist on virtually ever messageboard ( Iwould guess no the Arizon Cardnials site, if there even is enough Cards fans to warrant it).
The question is, why do you all care so much. A person starts a debate and they are villified and hordes immediately call for banning them. That is the only unique thing about this site. Some of you fellas need thicker skin.

Heh...then there's "Pat Fans" sites like Patriots Planet where patriot fans are considered the trolls and Colts fans are "the good guys around here"...go figure

Most of the time they are an amusement that passes a few minutes. Occasionally they go a bit overboard though and are just stupid.

No kidding. Bring back the good old days where one good troll could, over the course of a week, turn a productive enjoyable forum into an unusable smoking crater of off-topic arguments, flamewars and spam that lasts for months...

Kids today. Such pikers.

LOL at least you knew who the enemy was and he didn't try and hide.

Oh yeah! Back then, though, most trolls had an actual education, and put far more effort into their work - going for the long-term fun rather than the quick hit and run. No, back in the day they took more pride in their work. Today's kids just don't have that work ethic and sense of professional pride we all had back in the days before AOL unleashed all their users onto the net... :D

it's not the debates i have a problem with, it's the outright forgery of self that goes on with some of these folks. if they came to the site as a Steelers fan and wanted to talk football then that's one thing... The issue is the people that come here claiming to be Patriots fans. we're a close knit group here for the most part and don't take kindly to that sort of junk.

The concealing your identity is a bit odd but not too hard to uncover. But some of the Pats fans on here don't want a debate or any dissenting opinion. It's like they just want to come here and gossip about who Brady is dating or that if the Pats lost a game Bellichick probably meant to lose it to play games with the other teams' psyche.
I've always tried to remain polite and am usually met with the the same "F you Troll." of my favorite, "Ian, can we ban this guy."
The fact that there is a 3-page thread on the existence of Trolls is proof positive that you fellas take them too personally. It's like they walked into your living room while you were watching the game and took adump on your coffeetable.
As for why I show up, I've explained it before but will again just to show that it's not all that crazy. I live in NE, grew up in NE, my whole family and most friends are Pats fans. If I don't get this crap out here, I'll get into it with them and I'd hate to have spoiled Christmas for the kiddies with a huge football arguement.

I've even comlpained about the anti-negative thought process nature of this board.. There ARE some fervent homers. But there are quite a few level headed guys as well. Say what you want about the thickness of our skin, but I started this thread not whining or crying about the existence of these Trolls, but rather trying to understand (however ill advised it is) the psyche of these people. It is a strange phenominon you must admit.

They 'dress up' like Pats fans just to come tell us that we stink... then... why are you here? lol you know?

On a psychological level it's, to me, one of the most interesting things that the internet has to offer. It's like watching a rat walk to the electrode instead of the cheese over and over only to curse the metal when it gets zapped. Weird.

I hang out at some music boards and we had this guy post for years about his exploits. He was an MD... a heart specialist. He was in the running for the Heisman. His girlfiend was a mucky-muck at CBS Records. All kinds of stuff to make him seem like an expert at a lot of things.

Then he had his "brother" come on line and try to tell us that the guy had been in a car accident and all the lies came tumlbling out. Some people checked into it and discovered that whoever it was, he was nothing that he said it was. The dummy even posted as his brother using the same IP address, even though he claimed he was flying to California to be with him as "he died". None of us ever did hear from him again. A lot of people felt very used. For all I know, he might be doing it on other boards. It seems like a psychiatric disorder.

It's a sick sad world, and now that we can all talk no matter how far away it's just bringing all the crazies even closer to 'home'. Thank goodness I don't have to deal with them once I log off though :D

What is with these Trolls?

What's the point of coming on here pretending to be things you're not?

Patsummerall80 spent the better part of two weeks trying to convince everyone he was a patsfan only to admit now he's a Steelers fan. What's the point? Don't you have better things to do with your time?

That RXjock guy spent the better part of four hours trying to back his 'tedy is done' opinion by claiming he was a med student. Only later to admit that it was a bold faced lie and that he's not a Patsfan either.

My question isn't so much 'why do they post here?' because I get the draw of trying to rile up fans of other teams. But the thing that I don't get is that they invent these lies and then spend HOURS, DAYS, or even WEEKS defending them for no purpose.

It astounds me that there are people with so much free time as to come on another team's fansite and defend a lie for hours days and weeks.

My question is to the trolls: What's the point? Why do you do it?
Don't you have better things to do?

to find out the answers to that question.....makes absolutely no sense to me to go onto another teams board....and pretend to be a fan of the team.....only to then eventually come clean that you are NOT a fan........I can't identify with "TROLLS" at all.......whole different wiring in the head.....
