Please read the link and discuss. One caveat: I posted here because I'd like to discuss the implications of the data contained here, not because I feel we can establish whether Christianity's theology is the absolute truth. Since we are in the political forum I'd request that we discuss only societal or other implications which can be argued or upheld without recource to our personal connection to the supernatural (or lack thereof.) I invite anybody who wants to argue theology, to copy and paste the same article to the religion forum.

Looks like we need something to "UNIFY" all the various Christian denominations, as well as all other religions!! A "Unification movement". Hm-m-m.......

The fall of 10 points still results in 76% saying they're Christian so I wouldn't call for the end of it just yet - and I'm agnostic so I don't have a dog in the fight.

If the "Anti God" people think the Christians are bad wait until they see what happens when "Allah" moves in.

(I know that God and his kid Jesus can be trashed and slopped on until the cows come home but is it permissible to say anything negative about Mohammad if it isn't I'm so sorry, God Is Truly Great)

I expect part of this relates to Bernard Law and the clergy sex abuse scandal, at least the part that's got the Northeast's numbers down. I know that mess was the final nail in my religious coffin even though it probably would have happened anyway.

I wonder if this effect will fade as time goes by. I know in my case I went about 1/2 way through Altar Boy training near where several incidents occurred right around the peak time period. Nowadays I'll drive by Law's old residence a few times a week. Its not church property anymore and Law is long gone. So in 20 or so years it won't be nearly so personal to someone like myself.

Just because some priests were bad apples does not mean God or faith in God is mis-placed. Christianity needs to return to what is true and forget all the other false trappings practiced over the centuries. God is true, Christ is true, and we need them both as the center in our lives.

    Blasphemy!

This goes to all you freaks who worship trees, the hippy Jesus guy (was he in the Doobie Brothers?), the Korean dude and his old lady, some old headstones from a burning bush, a fat guy with earings, or your neighbor's wife......

REPENT WHILE YOU STILL HAVE A CHANCE!

BOW TO THE ONE TRUE GOD!

I have always talked to trees especially when I'm drinking, I have told all my grandchildren and great grandchildren after i'm gone to go out at night and look into the trees if the leaves are stiring and rustling, That Is Me.

I think that I shall never see

Your recruitment effort has fallen on deaf ears, I'm not interested. I brought up my perspective solely because the article this thread is based on highlighted stats from the northeast and I feel many of today's ex-Christians are so because of the Law scandal.

I have a feeling a good part of the 10 point drop are people who were not all that "Christian" to begin with and only identified themselves as such to fit in.

    Aw, shucks!!! :scream:

Anywho, I'm sure the Law scandal helped turn even more people off from "organized Christianity" -- I was personally dissed by Law when I tried to see him about Rev. Moon's conviction in 1984; Law wouldn't see me -- but still that's no reason to give up on God or Christ. People -- even clergy -- are still imperfect, and we need to see beyond those imperfections, eh? "Let the one who has not sinned cast the first stone...", .... like that.

we kill trees, we burn trees.......and yet they still feed us, give us air, let us build houses with them, let us build houses in them, keep us cool, keep us warm, give us places to sit, give us places to hold things, let us carve our names in them......

its easy to ignore the ones who do the most for us........I will take my tree over your god any day
