While I don't agree with the "Lights Out" imitation, I wasn't that upset about it. But these comments from Roosevelt Colvin took me over the edge.

"And when the Pats' thrilling, 24-21 divisional playoff win over the Chargers was in the books early last night, Rosevelt Colvin came off the field at Qualcomm Stadium with fire flying from his mouth.

“Shut the power off!” shrieked Colvin down a hallway to a group of Chargers players entering their locker room.

His voice echoed off the walls, and stadium security guards began to inch off their posts in anticipation of a Chargers player going at the Pats linebacker.

“It's lights out!” continued Colvin, mocking the nickname of Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman. “See you next year, chumps!”

I ask, why is this taunting necessary? Look, if you're the Patriots, you just escaped with a win, in a game you probably didn't have any business winning. You've now earned a chance to play for the Super Bowl. Why don't you just revel in the joy of that?? Is that not enough? Has winning gotten old in New England, and now it's more about rubbing it in?

But wait, there's more mouthing off from Colvin:

“They were planning parades. They actually had a pep rally last week. I'm serious. We're not in high school, man. We here in this locker room know how to approach a situation. We know how to win.”

So everyone in New England wants to make an issue over the Chargers holding a rally. What's so wrong with that? Chargers fans get criticized when they don't get enthusiastic about their team, but when they do show enthusiasm, they get criticized as well. Doesn't seem right to me. Look, I'd think New England fans would respect that, being as sports crazed as you are. I mean, I could tell all you Red Sox fans to get a life and stop spending most of your lives obsessing about them, but I won't, because I respect the passion you have for your team. (I'm presuming most people on this board are BoSox fans too)

Your team won last year in Gillette and acted with no class. We paid you back. Take it like a man, Chargers.

    1) It wasn't on the field.
    2) I know Qualcomm is old, but I could have sworn that the opposing locker-room was on the other side of the field from the home team.

Nothing less than what the Chargers did last time they left Foxboro. I honestly can't understand the "classless" talk!! Did a single Patriot player ever say that NOBODY can block me one on one? Did anyone on the Pats do anything classless other than celebrate a huge win on the opponents field?
You Charger fans have misplaced frustration PERIOD!
A little less time talking and a little more time in preparation, the results may have been different.

BTW, I don't think there were any Chargers anywhere near that tunnel when Colvin said those things. They left off the other side of the field.... And I've seen the video. Saying security was inching into position is just a big lie.

The Chargers had a Super Bowl parade set for 3:00 the day after.

    'Nuff said.

Of course it didn't bother You when Empty Headed Merriman mouthed off at Half Time of The Pats Versus Jets Game.
I know that You don't win much in San Diego but here's a primer for You.Celebrations should only occur after You win EVERYTHING !
If You want something to be mad about look at the drops by your wide receivers.Look at the boneheaded plays by Florence and Olivia.Look at the empty headed challenge by Marty.Look at going on 4th and 11 by Marty. You have plenty to be mad at, Colvin is nothing but a diversion from the truth. You lost and the Chargers contributed mightily to the Patriots' victory. That is the story that You want to avoid.

Here's what the Charger players, and apparently the fans, don't get:

ALL of the stuff the Chargers players do, such as Merriman's dance, IS DISRESPECTFUL. It is intended to put the player who does it on top of the players on the other team. The Chargers (and Titans, for that matter) will continue to get this treatment for as long as they continue to act this way. (Notice that Denver fans are delighted that your team went down yesterday?)

Colvin already has the Chargers set up for next year. Having them dwell on this stuff, instead of calmly and confidently focusing and concentrating on getting better as a football team, plays right into the Pats hands for next year.

Until your team ends the culture of showmanship and individualism, it will continue to piss everyone they play against. And smart teams, such as the Pats, will make sure they are focusing on it, rather than concentrating on the game.

No offense but your team did much worst in our house last year.

Colvin shouldnt have mouthed off and i agree. But planning parades after the Super Bowl and so on and so forth is actually really disrespectful and if you cant see that then thats a shame.

We can name a laundry list of what was classless in San Diego starting with withholding tickets from anyone outside of southern CA. But, we're moving on. :D

I am really getting tired of you Chargers fans.

All freaking year, you talk about how amazing your team is. "We only lost by 6 points" "We have 9 pro bowlers" yadda yadda yadda...

I think the best thing for you, and your team to do is just shut it.

You lost, we won. Big deal, there is next year to look foward to. Stop complaining about how the Pat's celebrated, because you know what - they deserved it. This was a huge win - underdogs to a big mouth team.

I heard - all week - from your stupid fans about how superior your team was, and how "Gay" ours was. All week long, the people here on patsfans.com were subjected to your fans cruel, and "classless" posts - and you know what, I have not seen to many patsfans retaliate back - I have seen the general feeling around here as "GG... What about the colts?"

If you want to talk about things that never happened, go back to your cry baby forums. It was a good game, no excuses. The Chargers are a skilled team, but until they learn to control their mouths and attitudes, they will never get anywhere.

Wade Phillips and other members of the Chargers talked a lot of crap after their win in NE in 2005. Sorry, what goes around comes around.

Yeah, hard to believe that a player could get caught up in an emotional, hard-fought game and not ride that a little bit. Just ask 'roid boy. Well, he's got a little chemical help with his emotion. But I digress, the Chargers were "locks" by most of the self-proclaimed experts so I'd imagine the Pats relished the victory a little more given the $h!t-talk the Bolts spewed after last year's game.

Win the game and it's a moot point.

I must admit that I would be mad too if NE lost in the manner that SD did.

I will admit that I would probably harbor some displaced resentment towards the team that my team handed the game to.

look up the things that SD players/coaches said last year after a regular season win, which would be hit by the filter here. nothing said by anyone on the Patriots approaches them, and certainly would not be censored by a message board filter.

as for the rally, you hold them when it's over. they're celebratory (in the pros you celebrate winning while in amateurs you celebrate the competition, i guess, and can therefore hold them before games). holding a rally when there are games to be played comes off as thinking as if the games are already won. even if that isn't the intent that is how it gets interpreted. i'll agree that the attention paid to it was dumb though.

i think denver last year is a perfect example of this. The pats lost a game due to mistakes. I can't say i resented denver other than the fact that we can't defeat that freaking team. i did resent the refs though

There is no handing the game to anyone here - We won. We made bunchies of mistakes as well... both teams were sloppy. It's the playoffs: there is no handing it to anyone. If we lost in the same way, I would try to find out why we hadn't capitalized on the mistakes the other team made. It makes no sense to me.

I will touch upon this in my thoughts thread, but NE was very lucky to win this game.
