Sorry if this is a repost...

There's a 5-part video on Youtube called "A Brief History of the New England Patriots". I've linked to part 1. Links to the other parts can be found in the Youtube sidebar. It contains a ton of clips starting with the inept team of the late '80s all the way through SB39. It jumps around a bit chronologically, but brings back some good (and not so good) memories. Enjoy.

    Regards,
    Chris

As a prehistoric caveman, it looks like a bunch of unrelated clips.

Thanks for the link, but didn't the Patriots have winning records in 1986 through 1988? 11-5 season in the last year Eason started more than three games (I'm an Eason hater because of his cowardice, but those teams were hardly inept, they had tons of talent).

Reminds me of a Sam Cooke song..."don't know much about history"...

Between Berry's only losing season and Parcells build towards a Super Bowl, the 1990 Rust fiasco and one of McPherson's 2 seasons could be considered inept.

That's two Super Bowl seasons and two inept seasons with mostly winning seasons in between.

The Historian in question might want to check this page. for ineptitude..:D

I think the clips try to tell the story starting in the early '90s, but the clips include strike games from '87, Flutie's 80yd TD to Fryar vs. the Bears in '88 and probably a few others in those years I missed. I guess I should have said "inept teams of the early 90's with clips of good and bad plays in the '80s." Would have been a mouthful, though.

    Regards,
    Chris

No, I appreciate the link, I just don't think the author has a good sense of Pats History.

They definitely stunk when they stunk, but it often had to do with business problems causing crash and burns.

If they told the story great late 70's and 80's teams, brief stinko period, great parcells teams, stinko Kraft Carroll Grier period (though the records don't show it) ang great BB teams, I'd love it.

Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine, you always bring great stuff to the forum.

I wish I had access to the clips the youtube guy has, the real story is much more interesting that "they were awful until 2001", which is what some newer fans think.

I'm a clip junkie, so my interest was more rooted in the clips themselves than the story the author was trying to tell. Despite the uneven story telling and especially the disjointed jumping around chronologically, many of the clips are absolute gems. The first part with the inept Pats has some hilarious announcer commentary...the reason I think the author picked those clips. The clip with Grogan and Hodson on the sideline kills me.

    Chris

I'll have to watch again when I'm more objective.

The historian writes on the screen how horrible everything was before Brady while showing clips of the last years of the best team in Pats history up til now, the 1976-86 teams were loaded with talent, probably more than any up til last year, and we didn't win that either.

And I have been through all the horror, believe me.:D

Funny thing is, the Pats were seldom mediocre, as stated.

They were usually good, really good, or just gawd awful!!:D

I just finished watching Part 1, which included Hugh Millen's boneheaded scramble inbounds, thereby causing the Patsies to lose to the donkeys 9-6. October 27th, 1991: the last game I have seen the NEP play live. That last play of that misty, dreary day produced, in order, the following emotions: excitement, shock, confusion, anger, depression, and finally a drunken resignation of our fate.

    Good times, good times...

    Just finished watching Part 3.

You know, the artist's rendition of the Hartford stadium looks better than the Razor does now.

I agree. Although Grogan is a hero now, there was reason why Tom Owens and Matt Cavanaugh sometimes started before him. IMO, not good reasons, but reasons.

(Sorrry if I misspelled footnotes in Patriots history.)

Didnt they miss a few important moments? Like the afc championship game where the steelers had their bags packed and ready to go? Or how about 50 and 23? or was this made before then? Good video though, man i remember when brady first played....honestly, who would have ever thought?
