Maybe he uses the same speechwriters as Palin and Bachmann.

    ROFLMAO I wouldn't be surprised.

I used to think that everything an individual (be it a movie star, a politician, a guest speaker, etc.,) said were his or her own words - and that they actually took the time to sit down and agonize over what to say and how to say it.

And then I moved to DC and started hanging around with writers and poets and novelists and business executives and I found out, quickly, that they pay people to do that for them.

Granted, a good politician or speaker will often work closely with his/her speechwriter - but many of them do not.

And writers of speeches, much like writers of almost everything, will write whatever they're paid best to write. They don't follow the politics, they follow the money. (not all of course, but many.)

I prefer the illusion, though. I like to think that when Elizabeth Warren rifted on "class warfare" that she was speaking from the heart and the ideas expressed were all her's and not some soundbite she paid some little old lady with blue hair and a way with words to write for her.

Sadly there is some naked dude sitting in his mother's basement scouring the internet counting the number of times Obama says "I" so the pundits on the right can call him a narcissist or this crap.. achieving sexual climax every time they find a faux pas. They yell "we will bring this bastard down, look at what he said now".

Yeah, well, and the truth is, right next door to him is a middle aged woman with unshaven legs who is looking for the same things from Palin/Bachmann/Perry/Romney/Cain and Newt - for the same reason.

Sort of a boring gaffe, but you have to take what you can get.

Bush was much better at this:

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." —Washington, D.C., Aug. 5, 2004

"Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?" —Florence, S.C., Jan. 11, 2000

"Too many good docs are getting out of the business. Too many OB-GYNs aren't able to practice their love with women all across this country." —Poplar Bluff, Mo., Sept. 6, 2004

Five times is not a gaffe by Obama. The gaffe is by whoever writes the drivel on the teleprompter. What makes it funny is that after two-and-a-half years and repeating it four more times no one has noticed the mistake (including the smartest President ever).
