I think Belichick will do what makes the most sense. He will get the most value out of his draft pick.

What will help the team more? a #5 or a #16 and #20 (or whatever the numbers work out to be).

Stop saying #5 everyone. Say #9 or something.
 
Assuming we don't want a QB or a D-lineman, it seems likely we could get one of these players: (rankings from James Alder)

As for the Minnesota idea, could we trade our SF pick and a late 3rd rounder for Minnesota's 1st rounders in 2008 and 2009?
