These 20 are likely to get almost all the defensive reps.
Of course, we will end up with a defense with between 23-27 players , including special teamers. I list more linebackers than "normally" in any listing of a core because of the injuries to Hightower and Mayo, and because Spikes and Fletcher have very different skill sets as backups. Obviously, Fletcher could be beaten out be someone else as a position linebacker, but I still think that he would make the roster as a special teamer.
THE "CORE" 20
DE - Ninkovich, Jones, Sheard
DT - Siliga, Branch, Brown, Easley
LB - Mayo, Hightower, Collins, Spikes, Fletcher
CB - Fletcher, Butler, Ryan, McClain
S - McCourty, Chung, Harmon, Richards
2 DRAFTEES
Flowers and Grissom will get a couple of roster spots.
THE REST (1-6; 3 would give us 25 on defense)
Special teamers (ST/S?)
Additional backup players (DT?)
Developmental players (CB?)
