My dad put a solar panel on his roof after the 70's gas crisis. It was one of a few incentives offered by the government at the time ... they started off good. However ... it's been rhetoric since then.

Getting better though. The technology has been quietly refined and improved. Soon it will be cheap enough to include at least a small roof panel on each new house. If the government was serious, they'd keep and extend the tax breaks for alt. energy--but they're too cowardly.

Imagine if every house had at least a small roof panel. I wish someone who was smart with figures would figure out the savings in fossil fuels producing electricity.

In VT, the power company there has a program where they use methane from cow poop to generate a portion of their power.

What do the idiot cowardly politicians--which I've mentioned at least three times today in at least three separate threads--have to do with Fox News? And how is Fox out of touch here?

It's a legit question. We've got maybe 3 active threads right now about alternate energy.

The question is efficiency first and foremost. People aren't going to dole out a ton of money for a solar system that will not return a valuable return on investment. As for the bill in question, what else was in it? Congressional bills are hardly ever what they seem. Everyone loads in some stupidity that makes it a tough vote for some people.

This right leaning independent support Solar Power, Windmills, Hybrids, and
anything else that will decrease our dependence on foreign oil and help
    the enviroment.

I am looking to get the wife a hybrid SUV this week.
Hey if you can get a SUV that gets 25+ miles per gallon it will be worth it.
I am sticking with the SUV for safety reasons. We have two childen under
the age of 2. A Hybrid would be perfect for the wife considering that 99%
of her driving is around town.

try finding a contractor who can install one. Not just Google one but get one on the phone. Maybe I should make a career change.

What are you looking at? I'm going to be in the market for a fuel efficent vehicle, this time next year. I currently drive a Jeep, but I do 6-7k a year on it. Gas sucks, but I hardly drive anywhere so it's not murder. I need something AWD for work reasons. Anyhow, I was going to start looking at a smaller SUV or crossover that is highly fuel efficient. Have you seen anything attractive?

Didn't Jeep make the Liberty in a diesel model? You could go into the biodiesel production business, or even modify it to run on straight vegetable oil, just using diesel at for starting it (because the veggie oil gells up).

    www.greasecar.com the guy's in Mass I believe.

From what little I've read about it, it seems that the "big leap forward" in solar that is really necessary is the development of the next generation of a thinner film photo voltaic. At this point, many are saying that it may be a decade away before that occurs to the extent that it can be upfront price competitive with existing home systems.

It's hard to be patient, but the wheels are turning and, as it does happen, the positive effects for our economy, environment and national security will be tremendous.

I am considering the Toyota Highlander Hybrid and the Ford Escape hybrid.
I am leaning more towards the Highlander.

I don't blame you. Whenever I see guys roofing a house, I think "man, I'm glad I don't do that for a living!"
