Back for some afternoon delight
Posted by Karen Guregian at 5:50 pm

One of the themes of camp, and the bevy of double sessions has been managing the time of the older players, as well as players coming back from injuries.

Makes sense, doesn’t it?With that in mind, second-year outside linebacker Shawn Crable, who missed the first practice session today after coming off the PUP list and participating Sunday, was out on the field for the afternoon session. So was 37-year-old Joey Galloway, who was not present for the first session. Given the afternoon off after competing in the first practice were Randy Moss, Richard Seymour, Ty Warren, and Benjamin Watson, the latter three who have been nursing various injuries. Also among the notables on the shelf were veterans Vince Wilfork and Wes Welker.

The highlight of the afternoon? That would be Terrence Wheatley intercepting a bomb thrown by Tom Brady. The launch was intended for Greg Lewis in the endzone. The second-year cornerback dove for the ball, and caught it, rolling over. Nice play, No. 22.

Training camp: No D-line, no problem - Projo Pats Blog

Training camp: No D-line, no problem
5:44 PM Mon, Aug 10, 2009
By Shalise Manza Young

Though we assume they were getting a rest, the starting defensive line trio of Richard Seymour, Ty Warren and Vince Wilfork were among those who did not participate in this afternoon's practice, though they were not alone: Randy Moss and Wes Welker, Benjamin Watson, Mike Wright, Shawn Springs, Dan Connolly, Paris Lenon, Tedy Bruschi and George Bussey also were not spotted.

Watson practiced this morning for the first time since the second day of camp; Shawn Crable, who didn't take part this morning, was on the field.

The practice was again full pads.

During drills, the linebackers worked in coverage on the tight ends and running backs -- Jerod Mayo stuck close to Laurence Maroney, but Maroney later juked Vinny Ciurciu, freezing him; BenJarvus Green-Ellis got his hands right in Eric Alexander's pads, pushing off and was open for the pass; and Adalius Thomas did a nice job of jamming Tyson DeVree.

Attendance
* WR Joey Galloway, OL Stephen Neal, DL Jarvis Green, and LB Shawn Crable, all of whom missed the morning session, were back in full pads for the afternoon practice.
* Several other players who took part in the morning were absent in the afternoon, including OL Dan Connolly, NT Vince Wilfork, WR Randy Moss, WR Wes Welker, TE Benjamin Watson, DL Richard Seymour, and DL Ty Warren. In addition, CB Shawn Springs, LB Paris Lenon, LB Tedy Bruschi, OL George Bussey, and DL Mike Wright were not on the field. The remaining list players, WR Brandon Tate (NFI) and OL Mark LeVoir (PUP), remained there.
Noteworthy plays/observations
* After missing the morning workout, LB Shawn Crable came back this afternoon and had what would have been a sack of QB Tom Brady during team offense vs. team defense.
* These end-of-game scenarios at the end of practice have become appointment viewing for training camp aficionados. With a lap around the field at stake for the loser, Brady led his offense against the New England defense in a goal-line, winner-takes-all play. At the snap, he immediately looked left for WR Joey Galloway, who ran a perfect corner route against Leigh Bodden. Brady placed the ball precisely in Galloway’s hands for the score in the left corner of the end zone.
* It was a rough afternoon for the usually reliable Russ Hochstein. He committed not one, but two false start penalties during the team period and was forced to run laps around the field.

Day 12, second Patriots practice - Reiss' Pieces - Boston.com

Day 12, second Patriots practice

FOXBOROUGH – The Patriots held their 20th overall practice of training camp this afternoon (3:45-5:40). The team was once again in full pads (as they were this morning), meaning the overall breakdown now looks like this:

15 full pads
3 walkthrough
2 shorts and shells (light shoulder pads)

OLB Shawn Crable was back at practice, as it seems as if he is being eased into the mix. Other players, such as NT Vince Wilfork and DT Richard Seymour, got a breather. LB Eric Alexander left the session a bit early, walking off under his own power. DL Stephen Williams also was shaken up near the end of practice.
Here are a few observations:

1) Scout-team cards are out. In a visual sign that the Patriots are preparing for a game, coaches held cards in the air at various points of practice for players to read. The cards likely had general plays/concepts that the Eagles run, so it gives the team a chance to familiarize itself for Thursday night’s preseason opener.
