He's not a potential draft pick, so I think a visit for a veteran like him is meaningless. The only thing the pats should/could worry about is his medical history. He HAS produced in this league and is capable of picking up on offense plus he seems like a non-troublemaker.

I should clarify. By not impressed by his visit, I meant more they don't feel he's physically recovered enough from his injury, not that they don't feel he's a good player.

That's the day we trade Amendola and a 3rd to Houston for Johnson too.

Didn't we just fill the last two roster spots with the two UDFA WRs?

Either one of those 2 UDFA signings, as is the case with all of the recent UDFA signings here, could be easily cut in order to make room for Keller.

Bingo. Hell, even without Keller, I wouldn't be surprised if one or both get cut following OTA's. The last ten guys on a 90 man roster are likely going to be in flux for the rest of the offseason as they bring guys in for a look. There's plenty of room for a veteran guy if they want him.

It is so hard to tell when it comes to the veteran players who are on the market at this time of the year. usually they want more than teams want to give them, as we saw with Abraham and Freeney last offseason, and there are so many considerations that we don't know about that are going on that predicting whether or not they sign them is about as realistic as picking who they will draft. Keller does fit their criteria in some ways as Belichick has a long history of bringing in older veterans who were former 1st round picks that had productive careers but were released for injury or cap reasons, and Keller fits that mold, however it still comes down to their view of him after they get a look and what they are asking for, with Abraham and Freeney the price was too high so they passed, with Will Smith the price was right and they felt he could contribute so they made the move. I really think they still need a better option at back-up TE so i hope they either sign Keller or find a way to get that done before the season, and i am pretty sure they will do just that.

I agree, the end of the roster guys play an endless game of musical chairs and all are expendable.

I would like to know what are the odds for Gronk make through the season in coach Belichick's mind.

Shoot, the TE depth on the team before Gronk is pitiful. It's unlikely we will see him before a quarter of the way through the season and possibly not until week 10 or so, after he gets off PUP and practices up, much like last year. Until we hear otherwise, Hooman is our staring TE, and he is backed up by a couple UDFAs. We're barely a 1 TE offense, let alone a 2 TE offense. Get ready for a healthy dose of the spread with Dobson, Edelman, Amendola, and LaFell.

What about signing Keller and Finley?

I doubt they would sign to the same place to compete against eachother.

I'd be happy if he just makes it through the season on the field.

None of these players has the injury history of Keller and Finley (or anything close really). Don't misunderstand, I want and expect him to sign more players. My point is that you are taking a leap of faith in claiming that by signing these players the position "instantly becomes a strength."

Yeah I would not recommend that trade, it would capsize the salary cap. We would take on Johnsons $11M (salary/roster bonus) and accelerate the remainder of Amendola’s cap hit, which is $4.8M. Essentially it would cost us $15.8M to have Johnson instead of Amendola.

    Ok. That makes sense.

I read an implied "hopefully" in the poster you originally quoted.

You didn't... and may very well have read that poster more accurately than I did!

But more importantly to my point, you werent assuming the worst but simply cautioning against counting eggs.

    :)
