3rd seed vs 4th seed tie breakers

For all of those who love tiebreaker scenarios and for dealing with strength of victory, here are scenarios for the Bengals to finish as the third seed if they remain tied with New England. The scenarios are courtesy of the Elias Sports Bureau:

If the Bengals and Patriots both lose:
Cleveland must beat Jacksonville
Pittsburgh must beat Miami
Indianapolis must beat Buffalo
And any of the following four: Baltimore beats Oakland, Green Bay beats Arizona, Kansas City beats Denver, New Orleans beats Carolina, Seattle beats Tennessee

If the Bengals and Patriots both win:

Plus one of the following two groups

So in other words unless we lose and Cincy wins it's almost a certainty we are the three seed. Might yet be worth playing to ensure it though given the seedings carry through and the playoff track record of both the 1 and 2 playoff seeds, both of whom could be gone coming off a bye after week 2. Traveling to SD after a home win might also be preferable to having to travel there after what would be an emotional road win in Indy... Whereas if Indy remains as the carrot Bill can dangle in front of a team itching to avenge it's regular season loss, that might benefit NE.

According to Yahoo!'s playoff scenario generator, neither of these combination result in the Bengals getting the three seed. In fact, there is no way the Bengals can get the 3 according to this simulator. Now, either Yahoo's thing is flawed, or there is false information being reported.

Not so sure about Yahoo's Calculator. It was showing JETs as 5th seed
while NFL.com and others were showing JETs as 6th seed.
NFL.co still shows JETs as 6th seed.
Can't believe NFL.com would go 4 days without correcting a mistake.

I think Yahoo is missing something concerning common opponents.

I have been playing with the yahoo gizmo too and I couldn't get anything to match the Cincy paper

Considering the Cincy paper was basing it's article on scenarios calculated by Elias, I'd put a lot more stock in what they portray than Yahoo...who probably had an intern do their research.
