    24 Season Premier

I'm pretty pissed that they ran the 24 premier up against the Patriots.

West Coasters won't have had to make a choice and should probably do us the favor of recapping the first 20 minutes or so as I wasn't about to turn away from the Pats.

Interesting "enemy" in this first episode - was that Dr. Basheer from Start Trek DSN as the "good" terrorist?

Also, can't wait for tomorrow night... wondering what was so horrifying to Jack and everyone referenced in the previews.

That was pretty awesome. I'm glad that it's a much lower key and realistic threat this season, that's exactly what they need. It feels very frightening - I absolutely love it thus far.

I think you are probably speaking too soon about the low key threat. But we'll see

Something big is going to happen tonite.

But the entire tone of the season - so far - feels much more real than Season's 4 or 5 to me.

    Re: 24 Season Premier

Interestingly they advertised tonight that one can buy the first 4 hours on DVD tomorrow.

Once you are able to actually read this thread, I'm trying to figure out how they are going to explain the fact that they had this big hullabaloo about getting the "device" to arm the tactical nuclear bomb - and yet now we're to believe there are 4 more all ready to go?

Unless there's a similar plotline to arm all 4 other bombs I'm not seeing why they would start with the only bomb NOT ready to be blown up.

    Re: 24 Season Premier

I thought they said that. I missed the first night because I was too hyped up over the Patriots win. Then I feel asleep before it started and did not wake up until 8:30. I do not have the equipement to tape anything.

I hope this is true. I would like to purchase the show before Monday so that I can catch up.

    Re: 24 Season Premier

I can't imagine it would cost too much for one DVD - maybe you can even rent it.

Of course, save for a little bit of character development and some far too quick background on Jack, you're pretty caught up if you saw last night and the "previously on 24"

I think the main 24 website even has a minute by minute play by play

    Re: 24 Season Premier

Too bad Curtis had to "leave" us last night. I always thought he had potential to take over Jack's role once they evenutally kill off Jack.

They are going to need to develop another #2 agent this season I guess.

How convenient thought that he takes his revenge just seconds after Jack discovers his motivation. Also I kindof found it funny that Buchanan is on the phone with Jack 20 seconds after he kills Curtis saying "I just heard what happened!"

Oh well - one has to suspend a little bit of reality in a show that has every storyline started, developed and finished in exactly 1440 minutes.

I would imagine they have separate cells handling each bomb.

    Re: 24 Season Premier

Well that "convenient" timing has become a staple of 24. I just go with it. It is possible an agent called Buchanan and said Curtis was shot by Jack as soon as it happened. Jack stood there for a while watching him and then ran off to the side. With cell phones that time line wasn't outrageous.

I have to say though that if I was that father I would have went for the gun when I was standing right next to the kid. He was wounded and could have been easily over taken.

After the amazingness of the first two episodes, I thought episode 3 and 4 were pretty bad.

The writing in 3 was downright awful, literally nothing in the episode made any sense. Even worse, you wouldn't have had ANY idea that Jack Bauer had just gotten back from 20 months of horrendous physical and mental torture.

4 likewise had a bunch of forced and contrived stuff.

After the season started off so fresh and different, it looks like we're back to the same formula.

Oh well, its still the most entertaining show on TV even when its subpar.

Well like we say - we all recognize the need to suspend reality a bit for this show....

Forget about 20 months of torture - the jet lag of a plane trip (a c-130 no less) from China alone would be enough to put me down for the count.

    Not Jack though! ;)

In past seasons he's been tortured and electrocuted only to be fresh as a daisy two hours later. Who cares. It's just good fun.

    Re: 24 Season Premier

I did buy it for 9.00 which was fine with me. I had only seen about 1/2 hour of the two shows. Interestingly the show on the disc is only 189 minutes...no comercials. They provided a $10.00 off coupon if you purchased any season of 24. All in all it was not a bad deal.

So tonight after Patriots All Access, it will be a 24 marathon.

One of these days they should just have a pretty easy going hour... maybe Jack gets a bite to eat... drinks some coffee.... takes a nice long dump...

It's gotta happen one of these "days"

24 can never jump the shark because it has already used every cliche in the book. Can't say it enough . It's just good action entertainment. Take it for what it is.

Is the FBI guy who arrested Palmer's sister and is now monitoring the "wired" guy Dean Winters? The actor who played Johnny Gavin on Rescue Me. It kinda looks and sounds like him. But, the hair is so different.

The one thing about this show is that they do a good job letting you think you see things coming, but then surprise you.

Admit it - you never saw this coming. Aside from that, while its a bit "convenient" - let it play out.

The Peter Weller character from last year knew Jack personally as well.

Aside from starring together in Robocop, its make sense that Jack might also know the bluetooth guy as well - turns out he does. Not all that far fetched that Jack's family is in some sort of "security" business and like many business men, they "went bad".

So while I agree its a little too convenient its not the most unimaginable thing in the world.

Clearly Jack knows a bit of what his brother might be involved with otherwise he'd not be torturing him.

Speaking of "jumping the shark" - anyone famiiar with the origin of that phrase would probably be amused to know that, on an episode of Arrested Development, guest star Henry Winkler hopped over a dead shark on a dock.

The show was cancelled shortly after that.

He was even clinically dead at one point (Season 3? The season where he went undercover with the drug cartel), yet he rebounded and whupped ass.

    He's Jack effin' Bauer.

Dam they didn't have Donald Sutherland playing Jack's father. Instead we got Stretch Cunnigham. :(

You mean the HBO show? Yeah neither had I.

My neice and nephew, who love the Wizard of Oz, were visiting one time and since I had a few things to do and made an erroneous assumption, leaving them to watch it.

I think they are scarred for life.

Don't feel too bad. My sister-in-law's mother let my (10 year old at the time) niece rent South Park Bigger Longer and Uncut. She assumed it was a cartoon and let her watch it alone.
