I wonder sometimes if people really overthink the top prospects. McCaffrey is really talented. He's a fine player, and worth a first round pick to an organization that will utilize his skills.
Depends on the player. Sometimes teams over think and sometimes don't think enough. Take Tavon Austin and Johnny Manziel. Teams didn't think enough. Yes Austin had a lot of talent but was likely destined to be a role player due to size and frame and is a better athlete than football player. Teams over thought those basic on the surface premises and talked themselves into in.
Johnny Manziel is another guy teams didn't think enough about. He was clearly cancer and instantly you would think do not touch him but you start to talk yourself into him. Maybe he will grow up or you can change him. Maybe just stop and look at the guy and notice what is clearly showing and just be honest about it.
So it can go both ways. However sometimes thinking a considerable amount of time and investing that time can help you with a player.
