2015 NFL Mock Drafts

I don't have the slightest idea how clowney will do? That's a stupid statement. No one knows for sure but it's frequently a career ender and a "hail mary". That means that there's a good chance that he's a bust. That's all I said. You don't have to know with scientific certainty before expressing an opinion. Only a fool would get confused by that.

I said the jury is out on Easley but it is meeting. Well over a year past his acl and he can't go. Not a good sign. Only a homer would think that's a great pick and no chance of busting. We're dealing with probabilities here something too subtle for a homer like you I guess.

Quick bump. Assumptions as previously.

*** Trade: Pats trade 1st and 3rd round picks to move up to the early 20's.

1. Eddie Goldman - DT - Florida St. 6'4" 320#. The Pats could also go with an edge rusher or OL here.
2. Jake Fisher - OL - Oregon. 6'6" 300#. Or Spencer Drango - OL - Baylor (6'5" 315#).
3 (comp). Jarvis Harrison - OL - Texas A&M. 6'3" 325#. Or Laken Tomlinson - OL - Duke (6'3" 320#)..
4 (from TB). Noah Spence - DE/OLB - Ohio St. 6'3" 255#. Pats use an extra pick to gamble on a guy whose raw skill set fits perfectly. If the Pats went with an edge rusher in the 1st then I'd use this pick on DT Terry Williams.
4. Jaquiski Tartt - S - Stamford (6'1" 218#). Or Durrell Eskridge - S - Syracuse (6'3" 203#). USC CB Josh Shaw is intriguing, but has major red flags.
6 (from TB). DeAndre Smelter - WR - Georgia Tech 6'3" 222#.
6 (comp). David Johnson - RB - Northern Iowa. 6'2" 229#. Or Karlos Williams - RB - Florida St. (6'1" 225#). Need a big back who can catch the ball.
7 (from Tenn). Tre McBride - WR - William & Mary. 6'1" 205#.

Nice job. I wish Draft Breakdown would hurry up and put up some Eddie Goldman video, as well as Drango. How do you compare Goldman to Timmy Jernigan?

1. Re-sign the usual suspect FAs.

2. Pencil in Cameron Fleming at RG

3. Accept that 2015 is probably Solder's last year.

Rnd 1

La'el Collins, OT, LSU

I think one of the Clemmings, Collins or Stanley group could fall to us and I suspect that it could be Collins as he's the least obvious one projecting to a LT. But I think he can do it in the NFL and he'd certainly be an upgrade on Marcus Cannon.

Rnd 2 *Trade #62 and #96 for mid 2nd round pick*

Cameron Erving, OL, FSU

An interior line of Erving-Stork-Fleming becomes a really interesting one looking forward.

Rnd 3 (Comp)

Zach Hodges, LB, Harvard

Jamie Collins mk II . Hodges shares some of Collins' explosion and athleticism and provides cover at the LB position as well as flexibility in sub packages as an EDGE player. Mayo, Collins, Hightower, Hodges becomes a dominant linebacker corps, even after injuries.

Rnd 4A

Omawagbe Odhigizuwa, DE, UCLA

This is a toss up between Hardison and Odhigizuwa but Hardison becomes less of a necessity if Branch is re-signed. Odhigizuwa is a future Nink replacement and someone who could play the 5-tech in our sub package 3 man fronts. An excellent prospect to play opposite Chandler Jones.

Rnd 4B

DeAndre Smelter, WR, Georgia Tech

Adds tremendous depth to the WR corps and as an excellent blocker is a real nice fit to our offence.

Rnd 6A

Terry Williams, NT, ECU

I'm not really sure what Chris Jones offers to our defence at the moment. Williams replaces him on the roster and potentially replaces Wilfork long-term too.

Rnd 6B (Comp)

Devontae Booker, RB, Utah

If he and/or ASU's DJ Foster declare, they become two of my favourite Vereen replacement types. Booker has drawn a comparison to Arian Foster from an NFL scout and has a reputation for having terrific hands.

I'm keeping this pick for now although Miguel thinks we won't get it.

Rnd 7

Tre McBride, WR, William & Mary

Fills that Josh Boyce position on the roster. He's 6'1" so the height is OK but he's got excellent body control, hands, speed/athleticism and has worked as a returner. Along with Smelter he's my favourite day three WR for now.

Much better. No comparison, really. Goldman reminds me more of Ndamukong Suh in terms of his combination of strength, power and explosiveness. I rate him and Clemmings about equally as prospects, but there is more depth at OL than DT.

Here's a Mario Edwards highlight film. Watch #90 (Goldman), particularly the way he moves for a 320# big man, and his explosiveness:

No prob with any specific player. But, if you think Fleming can handle RG, I don 't want to spend my first 3 picks on OL. I'm fine with a tackle first, who can play LG next year. Don't want to utilize two more premium picks on that position too.

I think you're quite optimistic sbout getting Hodges, Iggy and Williams where you have them going. I'd go DE/OLB at 64 if OL at 32. Take Williams at 97 or 4th from TB

I think trading 63+96 (or thereabouts) to move up for Erving would be fine, but it's a lot if we go OL in the 1st. I don't see any way La'el Collins lasts to the end of the 1st, either. But as a mock, the general idea and possibilitie are far more important at this point.

I'm thinking if smelter tore his acl he'll be a later rounder.

I'm thinking they draft an ot and hopefully cut solder. Collins would be great.

So obviously I reavaluate the draft every week but I think I know what I want for sure now. The D as is right now isn't a priority of next year in any real way if we sign our FAs The weakness on O is apparent though and must be address. I punt on getting Wilforks successor this year with the idea to go all in next year to get a super star DT. This year the OL needs to be addressed more than DT.

#32 - Cameron Erving - OL - Some have him slipping but I think anyone with OT ability can rise. It is now or never to draft him and he is a backup plan for Solder or if Solder rounds into form an upgrade for Wendell/Connolly.

-TRADE- #64 & #96
#42 - A J Cann - OG - An impact guard. These 2 moves give the Pats 2 day 1 starters. Cann takes Connolly's job and Erving takes either Solders or Wendell's depending on who is playing worse.

#3 (comp) - Jaquiski Tartt - SS - Right now projected below this but I think he rises with a strong showing at the combine which i expect him to have. This will not be a reach come draft day.

Ideally these 3 picks all make an impact and can start for the Pats. I doubt anyone after this point sees serious minutes.

#4 TB (103?) - TRADE - You trade this pick for a 3rd next year. No one you get here is good value cause no other spots that can start can be filled by someone at this talent level. This close it might be possible to move up a round for next year.

#4 Dres Anserson - WR - Though I think a WR will just be an auto bust for the Pats at this point it is a spot worth a shot this late. This guys has good raw skills and will appeal to people looking for an outside option. At least probably better than Tyms. An outside chance Dobson can stay healthy is probably your best shot though.

#6 - player to be named - TE -An all around TE be nice here but It is unlikely. Take a blocking specialist. Maybe replaces Hooman if you see more value in a full time blocker in your 3rd TE spot.

#6 (comp) - player to be named - CB - The back end of your CB depth is in flux. Bring in more competition for Butler/Ryan/Dennard. Dennard right now looks on the outs but Butler/Ryan have not proved they deserve to be here next year year.

#7 - player to be named - STs LB - The Pats could use more STs play from this spot. Mayo/Hightower/Collins/Cassillas will see all the minutes but the 5th STs LB has been who? White has been hurt a lot. I think a true STs contributor here makes sure you continue to have the best unit in the NFL.

If things go well your OL next year is Erving Fleming Stork Cann Vollmer with backups of Cannon, Wendell. That is not bad at all and you save money if you can moved Solder. If you decide to keep Solder at LT then Fleming is a quality backup and is groomed to play in year 3.

A couple of weeks ago I thought we needed to draft an OT and 2 OG's, but after re-watching the Jets game I am confident that Fleming can fill the RG spot. I hope that we can get Solder's cap# down, but we should pick up a later OT to groom for next year.

Big Vince has been amazing this year and I would be alright at his current price. I do think that we need to draft a DT to take over for Vince and it should be an early pick, IMO. Nink is an extremely versatile player but he is not a great pass rusher. I think that Ayers would be a good replacement at LE or move Jones to LE and Ayers can take the RE spot with Nink being a rotational DE.

I would like to see a big TE drafted as insurance for Gronk and upgrade over Hooman. Brady seems to like exploiting the middle of the field. That is where the biggest mismatches are with big athletic TE's and shifty slot guys. I am a big fan of Wright and feel that he will make a significant impact next year. I am on board with Smelter now and would like to see him drafted in the 6th.

1. DT Malcolm Brown
2. LG Tre Jackson
3. TE Jeff Heuerman
3. DE/OLB Tony Washington
4. OT Sean Hickey
4. WR Smelter(I am on board with Manx and Mayo)
6. DE/OLB/MLB Xzavier ****son
7. CB Imoan Claiborne

I really like Malcolm brown and would have no problem with him.

Who's regarded as being the better one, Tre Jackson or Josue Mattias? I don't know but I think I've seen Mattias higher than Jackson in the past. That will be the good thing about both being at the Senior Bowl, we'll get a good look at both.

And welcome to the Smelter bandwagon. There's room for many more.

just want to say one thing about TE. I hate this class this year and whilst I agree it's a need, I'm not sure we should be drafting one just because it's a need. Now if you like Heuerman then that's a completely different matter. I have to say, if Maxx Williams declares then i'm very very tempted to draft him high.

I think Jackson would fit better for us because he is quicker, pulls well and is better at hitting a moving target on the 2nd level. I do think that Mattias is better in the power blocking scheme. I do like Heuerman, he is a good blocker and is comfortable lining outside and in the slot. He runs smooth routes and has good hands, but his best asset is that he is a good blocker. I do like Williams better but I think if he declared he would go in the 2nd.

Interesting 5 round mock from Draftsite:

http://www.draftsite.com/nfl/mock-draft/2015/

They have the Pats taking (no comp picks yet):

32. Cameron Erving, OL, Florida St.
64. Carl Davis, DT/DE, Iowa.
96. Noah Spence, DE/OLB, Ohio St.
97. Kurtis Drummond, S, Michigan St.
128. Karlos Williams, RB, Florida St.

Not a bad draft. But based on their mock, and assuming that 3rd round comp pick for Talib, I'd do:

1. They have DT Eddie Goldman (Florida St.) going #26 in their mock. Indy at 26 and Detroit at 27 are likely DT destinations. If Goldman is on the board at 25 I'd try and trade with Chip Kelly and the Eagles to move up, using our 3rd or the early 4th from TB.

2. They have TJ Clemmings going #60 to Seattle. I can't believe Clemmings would still be on the board here, but I'd certainly try and trade up if he were. Otherwise, I'd take the best available OT/OG, probably Oregon's Jake Fisher (who goes #122 in this mock, which is way too low).

3 (with the comp pick if we traded our 3rd). I love Noah Spence's potential fit in our defense, but he has issues which need to check out. If they don't, Owemagbe Odighizuwa goes #110 in this mock.

4 (from TB). I'd double up on OL. Texas A&M OG/OT Jarvis Harrison goes #101 in this mock.

4. If this pick wasn't traded to move up for Clemmings, then an offensive skill player or DB would be the way I'd go. TE Jeff Heuerman from Ohio St, goes #138 in this mock, and I think he's a much better value than Karlos Williams, and would be a great complement to Gronk and Tm Wright. I can't believe he'll last this long, though.

6. There is no 5th round pick in this mock for the Pats, since they traded back with TB. But the Pats would own one of the top 2 picks in the 6th round. I'd take WR DeAndre Smelter from Georgia Tech.

I'd be satisfied with it, Erving addresses a big need at O line while Davis addresses the opposite trench, Spence should be a solid pass rusher in the NFL and Drummond can take over for Chung if he were to leave for big bucks, Williams can also become a very good complimentary back, my favorite prospect in this mock is Drummond, he'll be a star, Erving should be a star as well while Davis, Spence, and Williams will all be productive players, I'm a fan

Goldman and Erving would be fabulous, if that could be pulled off. I'd probably go with Noah Spence/Owemagbe Odighuzawa with the 3rd round comp, though I also like Tartt a lot.

I've seen many mocks that have Goldman falling into the 20's. That sprained ankle against Ga Tech might help our cause. Moving up a little and nabbing him a la 2012 with Chandler Jones and Hightower. Prob won't help him against Oregon either;) Eddie Goldman

I'm content to wait on guard until 64. Can double dip there with either 4th too. One of the FSU gards works for me.

You really have to add a db every year with the way the game is played and special teams value of that position. We can go safety or cb at 97. Or cb and move Logan Ryan to safety. How bout K. Johnson - Wake or Nelson-Ore St

Will have a whole night to sit on the early 4th. Second pick in the 4th at this point. RB's are usually dropping. That's a possibility. Double-dip on the OL. Pretty good year for running backs. I'm kind of hoping Mike Davis might fall here.

Double dip on the ol here. Best one available. Tomlinson??

Board binkie Smelter in early 6th.

My binky Mike Hull early 7th.

We didn't get that edge rusher. But, because I'm willing to walk away from VW, Re-work Revis and Mayo deals. Cut Hoo-Man. I have enough cash for; McCourty, Gostkowski, Ayers, Casillas, Branch and Silega. I think Ayers can really help as that edge rusher.

Our cap numbers are tighter than most think. We can't keep everyone. We're going to have to draft VW's replacement soon anyway. Do it this off-season. .He'll get a good deal somewhere. Ridley and Vereen haven't shown enough to keep either IMO. Same with Connolly.

A lot of Solder and Amendola haters. I am willing to be patient on a young player who has played LT very well in the past. Even though he has struggled at times this year. Just don't save enough money to cut DA. We may or may not have enough left for a veteran wr. We'll be shopping at Wal-Mart and not Macy's for one.

Questioning whether Solder is worth 7 mil this year or a long-term multi year contract or considering drafting a replacement does not make one a "hater"

True. But, you are very, very, very, very, unlikely to draft a starting LT where we are coming from. In fact, there may not be one playoff ready in this entire draft.
