2014 Draft Contact List

what is a fully fit Amendola? I have no trust in him to be healthy. I like what you have but I'd also like another outside WR like Nicks (depending on his knees).

Next year's another year. We shall see on Amendola. I want to see what Boyce or Mark Harrison can do because I think both can make contributions as a #3 or #4 WR.

I think Dobson's leap in his second season is absolutely huge. We need him to take the next step in being a dependable outside WR for Brady.

Well, Dobson had the best season for a rookie WR in the BB era, so there is at least some reason for optimism.

I agree.

If you ignore WR per se and just talk receiver, we're looking at a potential top four receiving corps of Dobson-Amendola/Edelman-Gronk-Vereen. I think that's pretty good and we don't necessarily need to go mad beyond that. A draft TE, Boyce, Thompkins and Harrison is pretty much all the cover we need. Now I'm fine if BB wants to go upside and grab Odell Beckham or Brandin Cooks who are Deion Branch type receivers in the first or if he grabs a backup smurf like Campanaro but later but WR is not something I'm overly concerned about in this draft.

Good thoughts.

WR who personally appeal to me in this draft:

- Beckham/Cooks. Guys with elite explosiveness who can create mismatches all over the field.
- Donte Moncrief. Big WR but very explosive and fast for his size, and currently undervalued.
- Jeff Janis. Ridiculous movement skills for a big WR. If he can be taught to run routes and catch the ball (little things, I know) he could be deadly.
- Michael Campanaro (Edelman-like).

But it's not a priority for me right now.

I don't see BB drafting someone from Saginaw Valley St. but who knows. Aside from Janis, you have the exact same names as me. I'd add Damian Copeland as a UDFA too and I keep hearing good things about Cody Latimer but I haven't watched him yet.

manxman, have you seen any tape of Albert Wilson? Even though I'm biased, there is tape of him on youtube (Georgia State v. Troy and Georgia State versus Arkansas State) that show Odell Beckham type versatility. Plus, he could be gotten in the 6-7th round or probably as an udfa.

Watched the Troy game and there's some clear talent there. I'm not convinced, considering he's pretty similar to Josh Boyce, that he's draftable for us but is certaibly worth considering as a UDFA. He needs to do a fair bit better than 7.00 on the 3 cone to be a serious candidate though. He's worth following through the pro days however.

And I admire your advocacy for him. Keep it going.

Thanks for your honest opinion and I'm hoping that he just get a chance with any team, preferably with the pats. But small school prospects like Wilson (no well developed nutrition program; non-existence football-only weight room--we lifted in tents outside; playing with 5 qbs in 4 years; and shoddy coaching---we lost to Lambuth a school that football program doesn't exist anymore) highlights the odds they have to overcome just to get noticed by scouts.

From Tony Pauline:

One name that slipped through the crack at Texas A&M pro-day yesterday was running back Ben Malena. The smallish ball carrier ran in the high 4.4s then looked terrific in drills. I am told the New England Patriots, who are very high on Malena, took him to dinner on Tuesday evening.

Someone else I'll have to watch.

Edit:

Not much to watch but here's a highlight vid with nsfw music.

Looks like an interesting Vereen back up type. Very quick.

I glad to hear this type of back is on the pats' radar. I think an overlooked problem on offense from last season was the loss of Vereen for a significant amount of time. We just simply didn't have an adequate backup with Vereen's skills to shoulder the load.

I think the intention was that Leon Washington was supposed to be the backup, and add value by being the kick returner -- which is why they let Woodhead go since he would have been the backup in 2013 but wasn't a good kick returner. Obviously that didn't work out as planned.
