Two distinct groups here. Half will probably be gone by the Pats 2nd round pick and the other half are likely to be there in the 7th or in FA. I'd love to know how the Pats see that top group and if they'll trade out of the first to the mid second and draft whoever is left. Likely Patterson and Austin are gone by #29.

What also interests me is the link between Markus Wheaton, it's fairly general knowledge that the Pats have shown a fair amount of interest in him, and Emmanuel Sanders - they both strike me as very similar receivers with similar sizes and combine times.

That latter tier is also distinctive in that they are big and fast high upside, low floor guys:

    Charles Johnson - 6'3", 4.38 40.
    Marquess Wilson - 6'3", 4.51 (unofficial 4.41)
    Courtney Gardner - 6'2 1/2 10.7s 100m

Wheaton and Sanders on the outside would be really potent. I don't see him sliding to 59 and I don't think the Pats would take him at 29 so there would be a trade for certain.

Having a guy to "take the top off the defense" again would be nice.

I'll take Wheaton,Hopkins or Patton overs Sanders all day long if it means we get to keep the draft pick.

Patriots attended the Indiana pro day. One interesting one is Adam Replogle a 6-2, 292lb DT who benched 38 times which would have tied for most at the combine and ran a sub 5.00 40.

As of 3/19, the Patriots have 63 players under contract. If they draft only 5 players, the roster comes up to 68 and there are 22 open spots for UDFAs.
Of course, I expect them to sign a few more free agents and maybe acquire
a couple more draft picks. Do rookies count on the 90 man roster before they are signed?

I would guess they'd only take one of them. If they get Sanders for the #3 then Wheaton would be out, if they don't get Sanders then Wheaton seems like a good possibility - likely after a trade down, as you said.

One of these two (or similar) + Amendola is what we're looking at, after that we need to build WR depth; Donald Jones is one of three we need there.

IIRC, drafted rookies do not count until they sign their deals.

I think Jones is a great signing and at the same time he might not even make it out of camp which is why his contract is structured the way it is. All depends on his ability to read the defenses and run the correct option routes. Wheaton and Sanders skills sets aren't exactly the same which is why I think there's room for both but part of that as well would be how the Pats see Amendola. If they think he's going to play a lot outside as well then it probably is one or the other.

With Gronk and Hernandez we can only play 2 WR most of the time (5 WR/TE can happen but it's relatively rare) so I just don't see us putting the resources into getting both of these two. Had we not signed Amendola it would be different. Maybe I'll be proven wrong but I think we needed two "starter" quality WR and signed one in Amendola. One to go then two more Donald Jones types.

Thought this was interesting comment from another site. The lead reporter was talking with an unnamed area scout and he made the following comment about Ryan Swope.
