I chose Tate because of his KO returns.

Re: Updated Roster Prediction Thread 8-10-11

Spelling aside :) ..,.

Offense 27

QB 3 Brady, Hoyer Mallet That's the way it's looking now
RB 5 BJGE, Woodhead, Ridley, Vareen, Morris That's the way it's looking now
WR 7 Welker, Branch, Ochocinco, Edleman, Taylor, Slater, Tate Price over Tate, given camp reports
TE 3 Gronkowski, Hernandez, Smith That's the way it's looking now
OL 9 Light, Mankins, Koppen, Connolly, Vollmer, Solder, LeVoir, Wendell, Orgnberger Agreed that we need at least 7 non-rookies.

Defense 23

DL 7 Wilfork, Haynesworth, Ellis, Wright, G. Warren, Carter, Brace. Even that seems light to me. I sure wouldn't go lighter. Maybe leave Brace on PUP to free up another slot.
LB 7 Mayo, Spikes, Guyton, Fletcher, Ninkovich, Cunningham, Moore. I'm sure BB is looking for the roster space to keep a Tracy White type, and also to keep M. Carter.
CB 5 McCourty, Bodden, Arrington, Ras I Dowling, Butler That's the way it's looking now
S 4 Merriweather, Chung, Sanders, Brown Makes sense. Lots of competition for the 4th spot, however, and I'm sure BB wishes he had the roster slots to keep 5.

ST 3 Gostkowski, Mesko, Katula That's the way it's looking now

PUP Cannon, Faulk, Why not Deaderick too?

Re: Updated Roster Prediction Thread 8-10-11

I see you aren't too big on ST only players.

Tarpinian could replace White.

Every year I predict Slater will be cut and every year he makes the team, I will continue the tradition this year.
I understand he is always down field first on kickoffs, which is what you from the gunner, but I think he is supposed to try to tackle the returner, not run past him every time.

Re: Updated Roster Prediction Thread 8-10-11

OFFENSE (25)

QB 3 Brady, Hoyer, Mallett
RB 5 Green-Ellis, Woodhead, Ridley, Vareen, Morris (unless one is on IR)
WR 4 Welker, Ochocinco, Branch, Price (Hernandez is really our #3 or #4 WR)
WR/R 1 Edelman and Tate fight it out for this last WR spot
TE 3 Gronkowski, Hernandez, Smith/Crumpler (3 roles, 3 players)
OT 4 Light, Vollmer, Solder, Maneri/LeVoir
OG/C 5 Mankins, Koppen, Connolly, Wendell, Cannon/Ohrnberger

PUP Faulk, Cannon

None of these decisions will be very difficult when the time comes.

SPECIALISTS AND SPECIAL TEAMS ONLY (5)

K Gostkowski
P Mesko
LS Katula
ST Slater, White

I don't see anyone beating out Slater or White. For me, the real question is whether we keep more special teams only players.

DEFENSE (23)
I would note that 2 special teams players are listed separately.

DL (7) Wilfork, Ellis, Haynsworth, Warren, Wright, A Carter, Anderson/Brace
OLB (3) Cunningham, Ninkovich, Moore
ILB (3) Mayo, Spikes, Guyton
LB (1) Fletcher

CB (4) McCourty, Bodden, Arrington, Wilhite/Butler (a tough battle)
S (3) Meriweather, Chung, Sanders
CB/S/ST (2) Dowling, Brown

PUP or IR Deaderick, Pryor, and perhaps Brace

Re: Updated Roster Prediction Thread 8-10-11

Spelling aside :) ..,.

Taylor is Taylor Price so he and Tate make it. (big fan of Price)

Brace could be PUP's to keep Love (but i thought love might be PS eligible)

Deadrick for me becomes redundant you really need to pick who you like out of Brace, Pryor, Deadrick, Warren and you can only really afford 2.

As far as spelling... just copied and pasted the OP's and added in my changes

You don't strive to have have more special team only players, you would ideally want players who can contribute on offense or defense and also contribute to special teams. This roster is pretty well stacked, there may not be room for either Slater or White or both, forget about adding more.

Love is not PS eligible. At least I THINK he played more than 8 games. He was on the 53 all season.

I don't disagree that there may be no room for more than two, but no room for even one or two players whose roles are primarily on special teams? May I introduce you to Bill Cowher and his supposedly unbeatable Pittsburgh Steelers teams that lost to the Pats in the AFCCG?

In my opinion yes, no matter how stacked a roster is, no matter how difficult it may be to cut a certain player, there is still room for a couple of players whose sole contribution is going to be on special teams. There is a valid reason to make room for a Larry Izzo, Larry Whigham, Steve Tasker, or whatever player you can find that is closest to their productivity on a 53-man roster.

Re: Updated Roster Prediction Thread 8-10-11

I get so sad when Love is cut on predictions :(

I hear you. Unfortunately I don't think he's PS eligible.

Re: Updated Roster Prediction Thread 8-10-11

Wasn't Crumpler already cut?

Was he? Can someone confirm this?

Wilhite vs Butler. It will be an interesting battle. We may keep both and only have 3 safeties. While putting Brown on the PS

I would venture to guess that at least 1 of these guys is gone. I think Sergio Brown makes the team as ST and 4th safety.

Re: Updated Roster Prediction Thread 8-10-11

One roster consideration that I was struggling with is whether Mark Anderson and Andre Carter are battling for 1 roster spot.

I think Andre Carter wins that decision in a K.O.

Who will open the season on PUP or an equivalent list?

Please recall that nobody who has practiced AT ALL with the team this off-season can be on PUP.

That said, the Pats have cap room, and I see little point in cutting a guy to the curb if he is on PUP and has a decent chance to contribute later.

So I think all of Faulk, Brace, and (probably) Deaderick will still be on PUP when the season opens.

Re: Who will open the season on PUP or an equivalent list?

Those 4 plus Cannon (on NFI)

Time for an update after the first preseason game against Jacksonville

QB (3) - Brady, Hoyer, Mallett
RB (4) - BJGE, Woodhead, Woodley, Vereen
- Morris most likely of my cuts to make the team
- Faulk on PUP; Medlin a PS candidate; Kettani could go on IR
TE (3) - Gronkowski, Hernandez, Smith
- Yeatman or Butler PS candidates
WR (5) - Welker, Ochocinco, Price, Branch, Tate
- At first I had Branch as a surprise cut; still possible
- One or two of Tate/Edelman/Slater seems destined to be cut
- Farnham top PS candidate, followed by Ross
- Jenkins age (28) works against him for PS
OT (4) - Solder, Vollmer, Light, Maneri
- LeVoir slight surprise cut; if not, Maneri a PS candidate.
- C Woods, Hix also cut
G/C (5) - Mankins, Connolly, Koppen, Wendell, Austin
- Ohrnberger cut in favor of Austin
- C Morris, Compas, Wetterer all PS candidates

DT/DL (6) - Wilfork, Haynesworth, Warren, Wright, Love, Pryor
- Brace and Deaderick go to PUP
- Pryor's spot could go to Richard
- Cohen, Weston and Williams victims of numbers game
DE/DL (4) - A Carter, Cunningham, Ellis, Moore
- I'd like to keep Anderson, but I can't find room
- Silvestro would be the most likely PS candidate
- Other cuts include Murrell, Lavarias, Nurse, Cox
LB (5) - Mayo, Spikes, Guyton, Fletcher, Ninkovich
- M Carter and Tarpinian top PS candidates
CB (5) - McCourty, Bodden, Dowling, Arrington, Butler
- Butler is obviously a prime candidate to be cut
- No room for Wilhite
- Williams a PS candidate
S (4) - Chung, Meriweather, Sanders, Brown
- Barrett, Lockett cut

ST (3) - K Gostkowski, P Mesko, LS Katula
ST (2) - Slater, White
