2011 Patriots Roster Predictions

Edelman is a beast. He's going to be a player in this league. Not going anywhere. And from all the reports, he's made big strides this offseason.

I honestly think he has more athletic ability than Welker, and with experience he can be just as savvy. Edelman is more than just a slot receiver.

Edelman was drafted higher too, TRADE WELKER!

/sarcasm.

I like them both and don't see either going anywhere anytime soon. If we cut any WR I see Tate, Slater, and/or the UDFA (can never remember his name) out. This isn't to say I dislike Tate either, I just see him as the odd man out, if any go.

My first attempt for the 53 man roster this season!

OL: Light, Mankins, Koppen, Connolly, Vollmer, Solder, Wendell,Cannon,LeVoir (9)

TE: Gronkowski, Hernandez, Smith (3)
RB: Lawfirm, Woodhead, Vereen, Ridley, Faulk (5)

What do you think will be the PATRIOTS 53 man roster this season?

Re: My first attempt for the 53 man roster this season!

Eh what the hell, I guess I'll do one every week until final cuts. Players are in my projected depth chart order (excluding OL, DL, and LB).

QB (3): Brady, Hoyer, Mallett
RB (4): BJGE, Woodhead, Ridley, Vereen
WR (7): Ochocinco, Welker, Branch, Price, Edelman, Tate, Slater
TE (4): Gronkowski, Hernandez, Smith, Yeatman
OL (8, 1 on PUP): Light, Vollmer, Solder, LeVoir, Mankins, Connolly, Cannon (PUP), Koppen, Wendell
DL (7): Wilfork, Pryor, Love, Haynesworth, Wright, Brace, Deaderick
LB (9): Mayo, Spikes, Guyton, Fletcher, Tarpinian, Ninkovich, Cunningham, Moore, Carter
CB (4): McCourty, Bodden, Dowling, Arrington
S (4): Chung, Meriweather, McGowan, Sanders
ST (3): Gostkowski, Mesko, Katula

Projected 3-4 front seven (ignoring sides):
Haynesworth - Wilfork - Wright
Ninkovich - Spikes - Mayo - Cunningham

Projected 4-3 front seven (ignoring sides):
Moore - Wilfork - Haynesworth - Cunningham
Mayo - Spikes - Guyton

I am prepared to defend every stupid pick I made.

Cannon can't go on PUP because he didn't start TC on PUP, right? Or am I mistaken? I don't know the rule about non-football injury listings.

I give you guys credit for the attempt ... but there is never a final 53 so I don't bother.

He CAN go on PUP. Any player who does NOT practice not even once for a moment is a PUP possibility.

I hope to see Cannon play but my 1st priority is to have him continue to test in remission. I still say he's really unlikely to see camp action and goes PUP if not IR. *

* Hopefully this reverse curse though sincere will work!

Re: My first attempt for the 53 man roster this season!

On first look, Cannon to PUP, Katula makes it.

Love instead of Deaderick.

Anderson instead of Murrell.

I wont be surprised to see Sergio Brown on the 53. Not at the expense of Slater though.

I was strongly considering Brown over Sanders or McGowan. Maybe BB sees more potential and opts for the younger option.

Projected Mid-Field Jumbo Package - Offense
Gronkowski - Lee | Light - Makins - Koppen - [RG?] - Vollmer | Yeatman - Hernandez
Brady
[RB]

Can go anywhere from a run play to even a 3 or 4 WR set

Re: My first attempt for the 53 man roster this season!

I expect Cannon will be PUPed. I expect Manieri to take the spot everyone's giving to LeVoir. Upside over experience there as Light, Vollmer and Solder are a solid top three. I also expect Deaderick to be looking elsewhere.

Re: My first attempt for the 53 man roster this season!

At practice last night Hernandez is working out with the WR's... so there may be changes in the expectations in that area.

Suspect may see Algie again..

Do not see Guyton outside, pyss poor in coverage.

If Guyton is piss poor in coverage, he should be gone. He's distinctly average vs the run, his coverage was his strong point. (Though personally, Fletcher's speed made him look a lot better than GG last year)

Re: My first attempt for the 53 man roster this season!

Sergio Brown has been very impressive both times I have seen him in camp. It was Brown's block on special teams last year that freed Connolly to make that long return!

I think one of either Merriweather or Sanders gets traded to make room for Brown.

Slater has been catching the ball well and seems to be a favorite target of Mallett ( we will see in the pre-season games). Don't discount the Swiss Army Knife Ross Ventrone. He is small, but he can play multiple positions and even lined up with the DL for drills at the Season Ticket Holder event.

I agree Cannon to PUP - red shirt year - get healthy my friend!

Manieri has looked pretty good - lets see what the pre-season games look like. I think Wendell is hurt more than anyone has let on, thats why they went out and signed two OG/OC types in Morris and Compas. Orhnberger is just too small.

I'm thinking 7 DL with Cunnigham and Moore as LB/DE. White is a ST ace and is kept. Mark Anderson is not the answer, I would have rather seen Matt Roth be signed.

Thinking two TE only, Manieri or Solder can be the 3rd TE.

Re: My first attempt for the 53 man roster this season!

So maybe Ninkovich would take the place I gave Guyton as a 4-3 OLB?

I'm feeling like I should project one or two of the WRs not making the roster, but I don't see who. Branch and Tate would probably be the most likely, but I don't see either being cut. There are just too many decent-to-good receivers on this team; certainly not all of them can be used.

Re: My first attempt for the 53 man roster this season!

I'm changing mine to have Cannon on PUP and adding Slater.

Re: My first attempt for the 53 man roster this season!

Katula makes it.

Deaderick starting on PUP is not auspicious for his prospects.

Cannon to redshirt.

6 DL still feels light to me, although I don't feel as strongly about it as I used to.

I think Tate goes; I think there only are 5 WR, plus (probably) Slater, with Hernandez able to take some WR reps.

Re: Roster Forecasting as of 7/30

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. As home town fans we are sometimes too close to the situation and nit pick specific faults to death <-- I am guilty

When you look at it this team is very deep and talented.

Someone told me a long time ago, when doing these exercises start with the obvious and then go to special teams.

I don't have the guts to put it in my list but OCHOCINCO could be the surprise cut. At his salary and with no special teams capability he has to be a lot better than the next guy, at 33 that may not be the case.

Re: Roster Forecasting as of 7/30

I'm OK with most of your choices at this point. Tate may or may not be the WR cut, but he is a reasonable choice. Brown may or may not beat out Barrett, Lockett and McGowan for #4 safety spot. This is a really a special teams spots since Dowling can be considered the #4 Safety.

But there is no way we're cutting Moore and playing with only 6 LB plus a special teams linebacker. I would cut Morris to keep Moore.
