Neither team can hit good pitching...and neither team can win on the road. Both teams rely on setting values on personel and stick with an economic plan, rarely deviating. Both teams value depth, over starpower. Both teams have one critical achilles heal....the Sox at shortstop, the Patriots at rushing the passer.
The result: Both teams beat up the lower echelon teams but struggle with their league's elite. Both teams are solid enough to earn their way into the playoffs, but I fear the Patriots may replicate the Sox' anemic postseason.

To start making comparisons like that while teh season is going on is a bit silly...ALso I didn't know that all teh road games have been played...kind of missed that. Not sure what starpower really means..I don't see philosophies being the same..especially without a salary cap...TRUE it seems the Pats have trouble with the elite teams although what I watched 2 weeks ago was NOT at all a struggle..but outplaying them and losing. If the Pats had a poor performance like last night against the Colts..maybe..Brady was recovering against Denver..so...not exactly the same. Maybe a bit projecting into teh playoffs..Armens thoughts of winning at home losing the semi seems more like a possible reality than winning two..but..things can change in 5 weeks.

Nonsense. The 2009 Red Sox are MUCH more comparable to the 1978 Wayland Ladies' Auxiliary Croquet Team. The similarities are uncanny.

I angrily disagree with you. I think the 1977 Wayland Ladies were much better, they had the Bessie Twins to power them all the way to the cup.

Calm down, now. I understand what you're getting at, but the '78 team was managed by Hennie Lousier, whose style was strikingly similar to Terry Francona's. In fact, it would not surprise me if Francona studied her legendary strategies re., player substitutions. Check out the Wayladies box scores from '78 and you'll see what I mean.

I'm sorry Patspsycho but I'm with Tunescribe on this one. If you look at the facts and stop trying to skirt the issue then the evidence is irrefutable.

We've played two elite (undefeated) teams this season.

One we had a 17 point lead on in the fourth quarter.

The other flat out beat us. It's not as night-and-day as "we struggle against elite teams".

We had one good game that we blew and one game that we were beat, it happens.

I think substitution in auxiliary croquet is overrated. Sorry but I'm going with the Bessie Twins and their legendary bosoms.

Comparing any football team to the overpaid, prima donna, pansies of sticks and mitts is an insult.

    Simple facts
Patriots are 1-4 on the road this year
The 2 "elite" QBs have lit the Patriots defense up to the tune of 9 TDs, 700 yds, and 1 perfect QB rating.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion, but "legendary bosoms" have long since been proven a compromising factor in elite competition-level croquet. They interfere with mallet follow-through. While the Bessie Twins were superior long-stroke hitters because of their power, their shorter game suffered for obvious reasons.

The tradeoff was well worth it as they leaned over to execute the short game, though.

Big deal, that was in the era of league-mandated uniform codes. No plunging necklines in the '70s, unfortunately. And now it doesn't matter because of the move to flat-chested athletes with better short game.
