People are often critical of the Pats drafting 3 of the last 4 yrs, the exception being last season, especially when it comes to the 2007 draft. But this seems to validate why the Pats traded out of Rds 2 and 3 that season.

A Study of the 2nd and 3rd Round Misses

Draft analysts always talk about how you can truly grasp a team’s draft class after the players have had three years of experience. It’s interesting to see 2nd rounder’s such as: Sidney Rice, Steve Smith and David Harris and 3rd rounder’s like Jacoby Jones and Mike Sims-Walker come into their own and prove the validity of the “Three Year Theory”. However, it’s more interesting to discover that in the 2007 draft class only 72% of the 2nd rounder’s and 63% of the 3rd rounder’s were given an opportunity to prove their worth to the team that drafted them.

Nice Find..

Any idea how it compares to other years like 2006 or 2005?

Couldn't find anything on that.

2005 to me was a solid draft for the Pats who were picking at 32. 1st Rd and 3rd Rd two starting OL: Mankins and Nick Kaczur. No 2nd Rd pick. Hobbs was also a 3rd Rounder, pretty good pick. They also got Sanders in the 4th and Cassel in the 6th that year.

2006 wasn't that good w/Maroney (21) and Jackson (36) in Rd 1 and 2. Dave Thomas in Rd 3. Mills and Gostokowski in Rd 4. Gosto was obviously an excellent 4th Rd pick. O'Callaghan in the 5th and LeKevin Smith in the 6th were good late picks.

Randy and Wes are looking better and better seeing how that draft turned out. I don't care how old they are/were.
