Just letting you guys know that. I'm a big fan of that statement.

The Patriots lose McGinest at the start of free agency. They don't sign a FA to replace him. They don't draft a guy to replace him. In fact they do nothing heading into the June 1 cuts - of which there aren't expected to be many.

Last year with the Bruschi thing they signed Beisel and Brown - admittedly they didn't do well but they did feel the need to try to replace him.

Now, remembering that 2+2=4 there is one and only one conclusion. They are confident that someone on the roster can be the 4th LB. Is that Beisel ? TBC ? Claridge ? Although I would expect it's Beisel I really don't know.

However I do know that 2+2=4 and that can mean ONLY than Belichick/Pees are comfortable with what they have right now.

    3 more months...3 more months...3 more months...

Can't wait until the first day of training camp. God, hopefully I'll be able to get down there. What a joyous occasion last year bringing back those pictures and reports and then hearing Mrs. B start up the podcasts.

L-R : Vrabel, Beisel, Bruschi, Colvin

With TBC or Green replacing Beisel on passing downs as a straight pass rusher. TBC, Claridge, etc, are interesting but Beisel is it, I think, until we get to passing downs. And, again, going with my love of 2+2=4, I'm assuming Belichick/Pees are comfortable with this.

BTW, 3 months is August 6 when preseason games will be starting. It's more like 2 to 2 1/2 months :)

    :drools even more:

Time to watch some more "Defend the Dynasty." Hell, maybe a ride down past Gillette would quench some of my thirst.

    :takes a bite of a tailgate-style burger:

...gargh! I just can't shake it!

People call me crazy when I say fall and winter are my favorite seasons (it goes without explaining why). However, there is one good thing about summer - training camp.

They've got all sorts of dough. I think they pick up at least one LB.

i'm thinking it's Claridge or TBC that starts..maybe I'm still just bitter at Monty, but i don't think he's the answer.

Don't forget 3 LB sets... BB will play these DBs, there are lots of snaps with just 3 LBs.

Maybe wishful thinking, but given how hard the Pats didn't seem to try in adding LBs, I'm thinking that Claridge may turn out to be a guy we are going to like.

ILB rotation Bruschi, Beisel, Claridge, OLB rotation Vrabel, Colvin, TBC. Starters: Vrabel, Bruschi, Colvin & either Belsel or Claridge. As was pointed ~50% of the time we are in nickel/dime sets, and using <4 Lb's, plenty o fdepth and quality. I agree with the general point that our lack of activity runnning around to get more LB's says volumes about how the FO see's our situation at LB.

Will Mincey be the OLB development guy? How will Alexander progress?

Will be an interesting camp. I like Brady's comments about the team and the season. This team is gonna be loaded for bear this year.

TBC maybe. Claridge, while he could emerge, I don't think can possibly be the guy they're penciling in without bringing in competition. I do agree with others that a good part of the time, 1/3 or more, we'll have 3 LB with an extra DL or DB.

Beisel will not make the 53 man roster.

BBFan you are right on the money. Agree 100% with this and also your original post.

I said this on another thread, but basically Beisel was robbed of his time to learn the system last year. ILBs never master it that fast. Fans treated him unfairly last year. Year Two should be better.

Actually, with any luck, our Pats will be loaded for Bill, Jet, Bronco, Bengal, Dolphin, Viking, Colt, Packer, Lion, Texan, Jaguar, and Titan, too. :D

Yup - I agree, Claridge will be a force this year.

One word answer for why they did not feel the need to draft a LB high up - that word is COLVIN.

He was playing better at the end than he was at the beginning of the year.

I totally agree with the original premise: in the mind(!) of Belioli, we're set at LB for this year. We are not counting on acquiring some new stud starter.

Furthermore, I think we can conclude (2+2=4) that Belioli think they have at least 5 capable LBs -- one extra in case of injury.

Who starts and where? I'm guessing this is going to be an open, honest competition. I doubt Belioli have penciled in the fourth name yet. They'd like to keep Vrabes inside, I think, but that decision depends on who makes the strongest case for 4th starter (ILB or OLB).
