Only 50 years old and a starting Strong Safety on the best defensive team in NFL History.

My sympathies and best wishes go out to the family of a great player and man.

Dave was one of the few less flamboyant players on that team and one of the few that I liked....he was quiet but deadly at his position.

Its a shame so many former professional athletes die at such a young age.

The more I read about Duerson's death and the surrounding circumstances, the more gut-wrenching it is. As stories mount about the effects of concussion and brain-injury on NFL players, the harder it is to believe that the owners can succeed with making an 18 game season a centerpiece of their bargaining position.

RIP to Mr. Duerson and Peace to his family. May his death help save the lives and mend the health of others.

The man blew out his chest so his brain could be donated to science to better understand the concussion problems that NFL retirees are having. I'm thinking this will only strengthen the players resolve to stick with a 16 game schedule. Thoughts and prayers to his family.
