From the Department of Unimportant but Fun Records

Apparently the record is 21 players getting a TD in a season (achieved twice), making me curious about whether the Pats will reach it, especially absent injuries that we don't want.

The breakdown of TDs to date is:

Players w/ Offensive TDs:

T. Brady
Cassell

Maroney
Morris
Evans
Faulk
Eckel

Moss
Welker
Stallworth
Gaffney

Watson
K. Brady
Vrabel

14 total. Somewhat realistic possible futures would be Washington, T. Brown (in any phase of the game, actually), C. Jackson, or 3rd TE (Hochstein/O'Callaghan). Past that I think it's injury replacements or freak plays (e.g., OL recovering fumble for TD).

Players w/ return TDs:

Hobbs (KO, fumble)
Andrews (KO)
A. Thomas (INT)
Gay (fumble)
Colvin (fumble)

5 total. Obviously, there's upside here, specifically on the defense (the principal returners all have TDs already, in some phase of the game or other). Samuel is the first candidate. Others who've been shut out so far include all the safeties, all the DL, Bruschi, and Seau.

Bump, because the subject is getting discussed more now but a couple of my suggestions are commonly overlooked.

Mods may want to merge the multiple threads on this subject.

troy brown will most likely get one...and then maybe even Chad....

that would put us at 22...and we have ANOTHER record

I've heard Brady say he's going to get one to Junior.

funny thing is, the teams that hold this record prob had a major injury season, and the guys getting so many td's was because they had to sign new ones all the time...

not the case with the pats though

It is 20......

Asante Samuel

Well, yes -- because I was early with the topic. :)

Going forward, Troy is an obvious candidate. And Junior because he'll be playing more on defense and plays a little O as well.

I don't quite understand how O'Callaghan/Hochstein get in on the goal line, if the skill position players are Brady/Faulk/Seau/Vrabel/Watson/Brady, but it obviously happens, I think even when neither of Watson/K Brady is hurt.

just think, Marcellus Rivers was very close to putting himself on this list

He dropped a VERY catchable TD toss in the Redskins game.

Seau is my dark horse candidate to be number 21
