Just saw this thing for the first time and I do not like it at all. That season was a failure in the end, we lost the Super Bowl, which is what you play for. I really don't think we should've put up a banner for that, it just doesn't look good, since down the road all we're going to be remember for 2007 is going 18-0 and losing to a team that was far less talented than ours.

it's kind of cheesy. the only good thing is it's a constant reminder of unfinished business. win this year and replace that banner

    Disable Jersey

I think it's fine. It was something that had never been done before. It's ridiculous to complain about it. Despite losing the SB it was still a milestone in the sport.

Super Bowls are won ever single year. 16-0 has happened exactly once: last season. I agree that it means very little without the SB win, but it's still an historic event that deserves some recognition.

Think about it this way: when people talk about the Patriots teams of this decade (or, through 8 years of this decade as we know them), they'll talk about three SB wins, the consecutive game streak, and the perfect regular season. Nothing wrong with that.

I concur. Obviously it'd be much better if it said 19-0, it's still quite an accomplishment. Not even the '85 Bears went 16-0.

And they put it in a different area than the SB banners, so there is subtle recognition that the ultimate goal wasn't achieved.

Exactly it was never done before and it may never be done again for another 30+ years. 16-0 has nothing to do with losing the superbowl, so appreciate it for what it's worth.

I disagree. That was a tremendous accomplishment by the Patriots, historic even. I say the Patriot organisation should show how proud they are of it.

I agree with this. Althought it was a great season and probably wont happen again but this is about winning championships, and we failed. We shouldnt be celebrating 2nd place finishes.

Yeah, but by that token teams should never put up banners for winning their conference or division. Admittedly the Patriots don't do that anyway (at least not in the stadium) but it's still an accomplishment to win your division and/or your conference, even if you don't win the SB.

    Just my $.02.

    #85 Jersey

It was a amazing thing going 16-0 and to ignore it would be a shame. Maybe it'll fire up the players everytime they see it. Motivation?

exactly why they should not have.

when i saw this in another post the other day, i thought the author was
a troll joking around. every non-pats fan i talk to say only one thing (i disagree): the superbowl was the most monumental choke-job in history. we don't need reminders/motivators like a banner. that's BB's job. i would venture a guess that he cringed when he heard about it.

i'm spoiled and unrealistic but i still want to see a 19-0 banner hoisted in the stadium--not only for redemption, but for the kind of redemption that this dynasty deserves and should shoot for.

    No Jersey Selected

There's a pretty good thread on this from a few weeks back. Lively discussion there for anyone who cares to search for it.
