The regular season is already 25% over

Comparing Defensive stats from 2011 to 2012

    2011 Season - end of week 4

    435 Rushing Yards Allowed
    1,475 Passing Yards Allowed

    TOTAL 1,910 Yards allowed
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    2012 Season - end of week 4

    341 Rushing Yards Allowed
    1,126 Passing yards Allowed

    TOTAL 1,467 Yards Allowed

A total of a little over 430 yards LESS allowed by the defense and averaging out to a little over 100 less per game than last year

If these types of numbers hold up,the team on defense will have given up nearly 1,600 Yards less than last year .....that would put them about mid pack on defense (anywhere from 16th to 24th IMO).....an improvement no doubt, despite the fact that the secondary is still struggling.

the d has made crucial plays every game.

    week 1
    strip sack td

    week 2
    forced fumble
negated by a borderline penalty and then gostkowski

    week 3
    4th down stop
negated by the offense not scoring

    week 4
    goal line forced fumble

    Titans 23rd in points 20.3, 23rd in yards 314/game
    Cardinals 16th in points 22.8, 31st in yards 271/game
    Ravens 5th in points @30.3, 2nd in yards 423/game
    Bills 6th points @ 28.8, 11th in Yards 387/game

    vs

    Dolphins 19th in points 20.6, 21 in yards 317/game
    Chargers 5th in points 25.4, 6th in yards 393/game
    Bills 14th in points 23.3, 14th in yards 351/game
    Raiders 16th in points 22.4, 9th in yards 379/game

And it's been against a similar selection of offenses. They've also allowed fewer points to this point. The offense both seasons was directly responsible for some of the points given up but this year the special teams unit has also contributed to that total. The offense last year to this point was more consistent.

Well, the first four games last year were absolutely HORRIFIC from a defensive standpoint. That's not what I would compare the D to. I'd compare the D now to the D of the last 12 games last year.

I will do another comparison and post it by the end of week 8 to see where we are defensively at that time

meh.......of you look at the last 2 games, it is more of the same, 470 yards per game.

they made some plays against the bills, but the bills still threw the ball pretty much at will.

at this point, there is no conclusion.....

The opposition piling up yards is, to paraphrase Shakespeare, just sound and fury, signifying nothing

if they are also forced to make critical mistakes

    Fixed.

They wanted to force the ball into Fitz's hand for obvious reasons. Sure they had less success in some areas than they would want, but I think overall they're happy with how their gameplan worked.
