The left worries about equality, not economic growth. That's only important so as not to get in the way of the former during elections.

Yeah, a real hotbed of Reaganism there, no doubt.

BTW, the average white RI woman has the lowest birth rate in the US: 1.1 children. That's even lower than in secular Europe.

The typical Chafee Republican in RI is far to the left of Dwight D. Eisenhower. See my post: http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-patriots/messageboard/12/254869-liberals-new-conservatives.html

This story while sad is a real non-story.

These people are using the states money as a credit card.
You charge the tax and you put it aside ... you don't use it.
I know some small business people that have a seperate account for their sales tax money so that they are not tempted to use it. These are trying times but enforcement of the rules is necessary or more people will get lax in their payments.

A related story I have not seen in the news is Massachusetts locking the doors on businesses who do not have or who have not kept up on their workman's comp payments.

These matters do not mean less businesses ... we are a captialistic economy. The weak fold and someone else takes their place. When there is too much of a certain business the weak fold. When there is growth some who have no business owning a business jump in - then when there is overgrowth they fold.

One term I use ... gravytraining ... when people who own businesses bleed the crap out of them and suck too much money from them. Then repairs and problems arise but they have no reserves to mend things ... they then use the sales tax money as a credit card.
