I dont think comparing Brady and Cassel's first years starting are valid comparisons; Cassel has the one of the top 3 wide receivers of all time; and the best slot receiver the Patriots ever had; Brady had average to below average wide receivers.

I think an interesting question would be: How do athletes (football players and otherwise) perform in their first game after a parent passes away; I wouldn't be shocked if there's a huge deviation from the average (many playing horribly; and many playing greatly).
