#1: 1st Buffalo game.....how can you not love the opener?!?! You see who gets the nod at contested spots (#2 WR, #2 CB, 4th LB, RT), who is going to hit the ground running and have a break-out year (I'm guessing Colvin), and a million other things you've been waiting for all summer.
#2...
Thanks for the additional thoughts Clevtrev. You make a good point in #4 about how some of our picks will help Watson.....I hadn't thought of it that way. I think you also might be onto something w/ #6.....CBSsportsline also thinks O'Callaghan might play some guard. I tend to think both will...
Let's assume your right, and he really thought Maroney would eventually be the absolute best RB in the NFL, and that Cutler would eventually be the very best QB. Why wouldn't he trade whatever necessary to get BOTH of them? It certainly wouldn't have been too high a price for Denver to move up...
Either way, it doesn't matter what one thinks of Shaky Jake. If Shanny truly thought Maroney was going to be BETTER than Tomlinson he wouldn't pass on him.
It'd be great if we could get this guy for any pick 3rd round or lower. However most other teams are probably thinking the same, so I'll bet he goes to a team that gets to pick early in the third.
Ditto.
I think it's funny that during the pre-draft talk about Marshall a huge deal was made about well he tackles, but the same gets overlooked when it comes to Samuel. He can cover too, and is a nice overall player for us.
Isn't this just another way to say that we do draft at least, in part, based on need? Afterall, won't the guys who play the positions that we are the weakest at have the best chance to make the team and contribute the most?
Mr. Patriot will be missed, but it's time to let Vrabel play his true position and see what he can do. He's put in his time at every other position imaginable (WOLB/ILB/TE/DE) and has never let us down. To suggest that after all that, he won't be able to hold up at his natural spot seems...
I think there's also a possibility he could move inside like Bruschi did. I agree OLB is more likely, but just wanted to point out it's not the only place a good college DE can move.
"Shaky Jake" was a pro-bowler who took his team to the AFC title game, but that's another issue.
The point I was making is that if you really think a guy is going to be the best in the league, you don't pass on him. If LT were available, you wouldn't say, "well, our running game is already...
A collection of random thoughts on the draft:
#1: One of the best things about this draft, IMO, is that we didn't take a center. That implies the rumors about Koppen being done are BS, which makes me very happy. Ditto us not drafting a SS early, which implies RH's rehab is coming along as...
I don't think it'd be too bad. WR does tend to be a tough position to draft for, so if we don't give up to much, why not? I don't really get why Denver would do this though.....Smith isn't getting any younger, so them giving away a young WR now seems like a mistake.
That'd certainly be an odd selection.....the only way it'd really make sense is if BB and Co. were convinced that this guy was such a stud they just had to have him, no matter what.
The whole rotation idea isn't bad, except for the fact that we already have plenty of depth up front w/ Green...
I agree that the Neal resigning was important. I think Ochmed has a good point, but in watching I thought he was actually slightly better than the prior year. To me it more seemed that he just didn't improve by as much as anticipated after coming out of nowhere the year before.
