Lovie Smith in as Tampa Bay Bucs HC; Revis may be out

Actually, Revis' deal in Tampa had no signing bonus and no guaranteed money. It's a straight 16M per year, cash = cap deal. (check overthecap.com for details on Revis' contract and pretty much all others in the NFL).

    Week 2: Patriots vs Jets

Yep - and Ellis isn't the starter. Damon Harrison is, and he looked like a monster against Tampa. A terrific find as a UDFA last year (he dominated small-school competition and is showing that he is legitimate against the big boys). Our interior pass rush matches up very well against your OL...

Wes Welker signs with Denver Broncos

The problem with lowballing a player is that, every so often, they decide not to give you the opportunity to match. Pats treated Welker like crap last season, even after he signed the franchise tender to spur negotiations. Why should he give them a chance to match rather than the FU this...

    2011 Offseason

Fair enough. Funny thing is, though, the best passing defenses in the league are mostly 3-4 teams: Pittsburgh, Houston, Baltimore, San Diego, NYJ. Sort it by QB Rating allowed, and the Bills and 49ers jump into the top tier of the league as well.

    2011 Offseason

Odd. So why the contrary approach in this post:

    2011 Offseason

It makes a difference when your coach is a 3-4 coach who prefers to play the 3-4 if at all possible, and your pre-existing LBs are better suited for the 3-4 than the 4-3. Belichick went with the 4-3 because he was forced to by circumstances, not because he believes it is a better defense given...

    2011 Offseason

Again, this is silly. It presumes that teams don't move their best receivers at all to get better matchups (false; unless the better CB is moving with the receiver) and that receivers generally run routes into zones covered by the man lined up across from them (also not necessarily true). So...

    2011 Offseason

No, it's really not. The phrase "beaten like a rented mule" comes from the fact that people tend to hit equines with a stick when they want them to move faster or work harder - and that people would be far harsher with rented animals than with an animal they owned, because there was no need to...

    2011 Offseason

You're going to have to explain this one to me, Rob - how is it that McCourty can be both "facing the opposition's best receiver" most of the time and playing primarily zone coverage?
  10. D

    2011 Offseason

This is stupid. DL typically take years to develop (NT especially). CBs often take time to adjust to the NFL (see Kyle Wilson for the latest example). As fantasy players know, rookie RBs are often mediocre performers (Ryan Matthews). WRs take time . . . ever hear of the "Third Year Receiver"...

    2011 Offseason

Greene is not an elite back. he is what he is - a grinder who will occasionally bust a 20 yard run and very very rarely a long TD (and he'll do that less and less as his career wears on). He doesn't have the elusiveness or explosion needed to make big plays on a consistent basis. That said...

Defensive Front Seven Better Than In 2010

Re: Defensive Front Seven Better Than 2011 False. We Jets fans were telling you just that at the time - and so was the Jets' front office (albeit indirectly, through the much, much lower offer they were making). You were bidding against yourself on this one. I think that's shortsighted...

    2011 Offseason

Speaking as a Jets fan watching the team from the outside, that's exactly the problem. When the Pats were signing guys like Pleasant, Phifer, Hamilton, Otis Smith, etc. - guys who were average to below average starters - they were signing them to be complementary guys to a defensive core that...

    Patriots release Albert Haynesworth

Remember when you guys were happy about stealing Shaun Ellis from the Jets? Good times.

    Patriots release Albert Haynesworth

Unlikely. The Jets already have a DL rotation of young guys playing very well and with good chemistry. No need to disrupt that by adding Haynesworth

I can see why Hodgey was complaining.

    Interesting points from Tom Curran

Did you even read what I wrote? Turner was the Jets' top backup on the interior OL. Had he been healthy, the Jets would have been fine during Mangold's injury (it would have been a drop off, but not severe enough to torpedo the whole offense). With Turner out, the Jets were down to their...

    Interesting points from Tom Curran

First of all, McCourty and Wilson are very different players. Wilson is at his best in press-man coverage (he's very fluid in and out of his breaks and can mirror receivers well), and McCourty is much better in zone than man (as you're seeing this year). Wilson is by far the better player for...

    Interesting points from Tom Curran

I see the problem - you don't know what you're talking about. You're essentially counting every player who played a down for the patriots as a "contributor". More, you're treating first round picks and mid-round picks as though they ought to be judged by the same standard. What you got out...
