Ron Borges Picks the PATS!!! (merged: Borges explains pick to BSM)

Re: Ron Borges Picks the PATS!!! I don't think Borges is especially knowledgeable about football. He covers multiple sports, and he made his name originally with his boxing coverage, and even there he has been found lacking. He has a melodramatic, operatic style, which can be effective...

JUST IN: Marty stays at San Diego

Schottenheimer might not be in Belichick's league -- after all, his postseason record, with multiple teams, speaks for itself -- but I'm not sure the Chargers could have replaced him with anybody better. After next season, perhaps they'll replace him with Bill (Chin) Cowher.

    Romo Choko!!

I think he still has intensity and passion for fights he can win. He's at a disadvantage coaching for Jerry (Botox) Jones. I was surprised when Parcells took that job, but I think he's had enough of the circus now. Jones is a younger version of Al Davis, and that's not a good thing.

    Is Tuna toast?

It will depend entirely on how he feels about another season with Jerry Jones and Terrell Owens. That's not a good recipe for anybody's health.

    Tony "Laces Out" Romo

Drew does not hold for field goals. It is beneath him. He's still the starting quarterback, you know, if only in his mind.

Pats want to build fortress around Brady

I agree that Light is average at best in pass protection. Without help from a tight end, he gets beaten consistently on the outside by speed rushers. He just isn't quick enough or strong enough to repel the attack. There's no reason to expect he'll be any better after a severe injury. The...

    Tony Kornheiser- "Smug Patriots"?

The Pats have been successful, so perhaps Kornheiser is assuming the success has gone to their heads. Like you say, it's nothing to get irate about.

    Rumor: Dillon may be released?

Usenet was getting ugly, that's for sure. When my service provider stopped providing access to an NNTP server, I just thought it was time to seek a higher level of football discourse. I see some familiar names, so I'm hoping they will help me make the transition toward enlightenment and...

OT: Favre, *$%# or get off the pot

I don't think he's coming back. I know he likes the limelight and the media attention, but I think he's serious when he says he's leaning toward retirement. With the state of that team in Green Bay, he'd just be subjecting himself to another miserable season, replete with more interceptions...

Belichick on the Pre game show at super bowl

I don't think he mumbles, but he's not exactly animated or exuberant. His speaking manner reminds me a bit of Bob Newhart.

    Rumor: Dillon may be released?

Yes, indeed. This looks like the place to be.

Jets hire 32 yr old Schottenheimer as OC

Schottenheimer Sr. often gets his teams into the playoffs -- then the wheels fall off.

    Rumor: Dillon may be released?

It seems unlikely that they'd cut him. He is getting older and the injuries were a problem this past season, but it's difficult to envision them picking up anybody better, at least for next season, through the draft or free agency.
