Successful org's like the Pats cultivate talent behind effective yet aging starters. The Steelers have done the best job of this at linebacker (maybe my reasoning is affected by Lamar Woodley) and along their defensive line. The Pats have done a good job of this on the O-line. David Given's...
I envision a second day pick being spent on a corner. Dowling to move to FS in OTA's and training camp. Thus said drafted corner being the second outside guy, with Arrington being the slot corner which he demonstrated effective play at last season. If that idyllic scenario doesn't work out, a...
I think the 5 million for draft picks is being a tad bit over accounted for. That number makes sense when teams don't have 51 players under contract and you're adding their entire salary onto the cap. But Pats have more than 51 players on the roster, so even when accounting for 7 league...
Re: Glazer tweeting he expects cap to be 120.6
It's going to be a busy 2 days of restructurings and cuts. Most reports were at the 124 million mark, teams were hedging their bets to that mark most likely.
They should just ignore the defense this year, essentially punt on the season get the number 1 pick and trade it for multiple asset's. What they need to do this year is use a good amount of the created cap space on a line to keep Luck from getting crushed. They can go fancy on someone young...
Has Crick weighing in at 279 made you question his ability to play 3-4 end. That's 15 lbs less than most web sites had him at. I don't know if all of that can be attributed to not being able to lift weights due to his pec surgery.
Re: Matt Williamson: The Pats will be "really involved" in trying to get Mario Willi
He's a very good player, not a great one. His head was facing the stands on the biggest play of his football career, instead of making a play on the slant. He needs to step up his game in big moments.
Why would the Pats only save 3.5 mil on the cap if he retires. His cap number is 8 million according to jetscap; I don't remember teams receiving dead money on the cap when players retired before, is this something new with the new CBA?
The 22 mil cap hit is confirmed. All those who said super mario had no chance of becoming a free agent can stop talking now.

"Williams' calculation is complicated (stay with me): 2011 salary + option bonus and buyback proration = $18.325M. 120% is $21.99M"
Chad will get cut 3 million is still a relatively high cap number for zero production. Also Branch will be back at the vet minimum if at all. He's lost all his speed and the only way he gets catches is due to his mind meld with Tom Brady. Other teams know this, the Pats know this.
People are overestimating Kevin Love's pending cap number. ERFA means he's going to make the minimum of a third year player, which is 615 k. No tender needs to be applied to retain him. Slice a million dollars off everyone's projections please.
The Texans have the least cap space in the league and Arian Foster needs to get paid, Mario Williams is most likely in play. Also some money needs to go to O-line help to keep multiple QB's from going on IR for the Texans.
Mario Williams. Sign him. He's shown the ability to play in 4-3 and 3-4. He's elite and young as well. Break the bank for a stud. Its not like the Pats haven't made FA splashes before, too bad the last one was A. Thomas.
What an utter travesty that he is still around. He has BB's trust which handcuffed the offense horribly. He has no speed and requires little to now coverage running routes because any player on the field can break and catch him easily. Woodhead has to be respected because he has spped and can...
Carson Palmer doesn't have the arm to be an nfl qb since his torn rotator cuff. Also he hasn't been the same capable pocket passer since his ACL. This is the worst trade I have ever seen in the NFL since the Saints Ricky Williams trade. I really don't understand how they didn't take a look at...
Re: Bedard: Matt Light agrees to 2-year deal!
That's a good deal for both sides. Though Light took a discount on that deal with the funny money that's been tossed around for guys who didn't even start last year.
