Actually, I did understand the point of the list and my response was in no way intended to "defend Chung's honor" as you or anyone else should understand from reading my previous posts in this thread. If you DO read them, you should see that I share the concerns that others have about Chung's...
Nice list.
Now, whittle that down to the guys who are realistically likely to be available to replace Chung for 2013.
Then, whittle THAT list down to the guys who are realistically likely to sign with the Pats for the $3 mil/year or so that folks appear to be saying that Chung is worth...
Something like this makes the most sense to me, though after last season when BB had nearly every DB on the roster (for however long they were on it) and Edelman rotating through for often significant numbers of snaps, I'd guess that Dennard, Wilson and Moore may all see more time than we'd...
Excellent analysis, but one minor quibble regarding the bolded statements.
The Pats defense allowed 370 total 1st downs, including 24 by penalty (two of which were DPI by Sergio Brown that allowed significant opposition scores, BTW). They allowed 95 conversions of 221 total 3rd and 4th down...
This is basically the way it currently shakes out for me, too (pre-camp). However, I think there's a bit of role-versatility there - some overlap similar to that among OLBs and Edge-rush DEs - and I'm not all that eager to pigeonhole these guys as exclusively CB or Safety for the roster counts...
I think Andy's being pretty reasonable on this one.
For me, it's difficult to evaluate Chung's overall contributions in isolation - not only because of the relative lack of exposure, but because the rest of the defense around him has been in more or less constant flux for the past couple...
While I realize that your response above actually addresses a few previous posts, I just wanted to be clear that I was exclusively questioning the original author's omission of RBs among the "receivers" while including TEs - NOT his conclusions (or yours) about which team has the "best"...
Seems to me that this debate over who's a "receiver" or not comes down to whether or not one prefers to use the arbitrary positional distinction of the author. Personally, for years I've preferred "pass-catcher" as including any position that regularly runs routes and catches since, in terms of...
"... he'd ..." as in "he HAD been working through some injuries (since mid-2009) that HAD been slowing him down...."
I apologize if the phrasing was unclear, but "HAD", in my understanding of the English language, indicates PAST TENSE, not necessarily ongoing. And my statement (as a person...
Depends on:
- what Wayne wants out of the rest of his career
- how realistic he is about his own potential longevity
- his own ability to master the pats offense quickly
- how realistic he is about how that "3-year deal elsewhere" may be structured
At his age, he's made, cumulatively...
Yeah. Saw that about Hanna in a later write-up. One observer generously wrote that Hanna, "looked unnatural catching passes."
Unnatural is apparently diplomat-speak for "he sucked".
DUDE!
It's only an OBSERVATION - and an objective one. None of knows for a fact what his health was then or how it may (or may not) have affected him or what his health is now. THAT IS A FACT.
Please learn how to read and argue like a grown-up.
Excellent work!
I kinda like the separate performance categories and especially like the concept of evaluating things like 20-yard-plays and 1st-downs as a percentage of plays, rather than as a raw number.
Inspired by the pro-football-reference.com Average Value (AV) system, I've been...
Pretty much what BB has been doing for most of his tenure with the Pats. He's acquired literally nine times as many 1-2 year veteran stop-gaps at WR than he's drafted legitimate WR prospects for long-term development.
IMHO, part of the success of that execution was due to Wayne (and Clark, Harrison, et al) knowing where to get open and when based on reading what the defense was doing exactly the same way Manning had, and then making the proper pre-arranged route option and route adjustment. These...
Here's my original post on Moss - which was in response to WelshPat saying "he looked slow in TEN."
I truly don't know where the F**K you get that I'm "making excuses for him" or that I'm "trying to convince (anyone) that he could have gone out and dominated" or that I'm pretending he could...
Seems to me that, aside from terminology differences, the "system" is primarily extremely extensive use of pre-determined route options/adjustments based on reads of the defense - in sync with the QB's reads. I think that's mainly what McDaniels introduced in Denver with Orton/Lloyd. But I'd...
I was exclusively addressing the speed issue wrt his age and health. There are a lot of other potential reasons for his performance being terrible, not the least of which is his attitude (possibly a result of other Titans' offensive and coaching issues, at least in part).
